I had a young, very nice-looking married professional woman in my office a while back whose job required travel and doing social events with some high-end folks. I can’t remember how she got connected in this particular case, but she met Rob Gronkowski in Florida at some business meeting, and he invited her and another woman she worked with to come to a party at a house he had there.
She didn’t know anything about his reputation, but said he seemed very nice and professional. Still, she knew about the reputation of NFL players. She called her husband, and he told her to go, but only with someone else, and to leave if anything hinky happens.
She arrived, and there were about 100 people attending. First thing she had to do was show her ID to Gronk’s security, they checked a list, and they searched her purse. Then she had to surrender her phone and all electronic devices. She was then allowed in. She said there were two parties going on. The bigger party she was having was with people sipping drinks and casually talking. The other party involved a few sets of guys and women going upstairs, back down, back up. She said she didn’t know what was going on up there, and didn’t want to know. But she said that her experience was fine, she never felt uncomfortable, no one harassed or hit on her, etc. After an hour she left, got her stuff back, and went to her hotel.
But there are some lessons in there. Gronk wants to party, but all attendees are invited, he is in control of the venue, no one can get a gun or anything else in, no recording devices are allowed, and his security basically makes sure that the party isn’t going to end up on the front page the next day – either because nothing happened or because there is no evidence of it happening.
If one of those women going upstairs made an accusation, the police would interview all attendees and most of them would have said all they saw was people sipping drinks and chatting.
Gronk’s lifestyle may not be what I would choose, but he ain’t dumb. His parties have obviously been well thought out. That’s how you protect yourself - if you don't want to go the monk route. :)
