CB Doran Grant (Official Thread)

Meet a Buckeye: DB Doran Grant

Defensive Back // Doran Grant
Age: 19
Year: Sophomore
Vitals: 5-11, 188
Hometown: Akron (St. Vincent-St. Mary)
Major: Pre-communication

Doran Grant played in all 13 games as a true freshman last year. Though he was edged by senior Travis Howard for a starting cornerback spot in preseason camp, Grant figures to play a prominent role on this year?s Ohio State defense. On a team that likes to call itself a family, Grant really is playing with his own blood. He found out a few years ago that wide receiver Devin Smith and linebacker Curtis Grant are his second-cousins.

Q: Anyone coming from SVSM gets the obvious question: Do you know LeBron James?

A: Not really. He?s a city guy. He loves Akron. He loves the school just like I do. If you lived in Akron and went through STSM, you?d feel the same way. But I don?t really have a personal relationship with him.

Corner patrol: Bradley Roby isn't going to have to fight for his job back, but Doran Grant did everything he could to steal away some playing time at cornerback with Ohio State's top guy on the shelf with a shoulder injury. Grant chipped in contributions in just about every way he could, making a sack, recovering a fumble and then icing the game with a late interception to give the Buckeyes another trusted option in the secondary.

Really? Isn't Howard leading the team in interceptions so far?

Not only is he leading the team in interceptions, hes only leading the conference and is only 1 INT away from being top in the entire nation!

Howard has played his heart out thus far. Not sure of the "piss poor effort" when much of the defense is lacking in their tackles. Some arm-chair message board posters will never be happy.

As for Grant, he played solid this last Saturday, hopefully it bodes well for him this season because I have a feeling they will need him.

Howard doesn't wrap up...no one is complaining about his interceptions. He is a good corner, if he could tackle he would be a great corner.

FIFY.

He already is a very good corner - you don't lead in any category by being just "okay". They "okay" ad decent players don't make a Buckeye starting team.

Again, tackling is a team issue right now. Going for the big hit and highlight real instead of wrapping up.

(break, break)

I'm calling the "off topic" flag on myself with defending Howards worth. Lets keep this to Grant. He has 7 tackles so far this season, as well as a good showing this last game as a replacement.

I've seen Travis put forward a lot better effort at making tackles than Bryant, who favors kill shots and YAC over tackling. He just isn't very consistent at executing.

Which means he can catch. Put him in at WR
