CB Doran Grant (Official Thread)

Only the player's airfare and travel expenses are paid for...family members have to pay their own way (is my understanding). NavyBuck could probably clarify that...

What about a player who is from Columbus where airfare isn't an issue. Could they pay for the 4 family members food and lodging? That sort of stuff I'm wondering about. Thanks

Future Lettermen: Can Ohio State Keep Native Son Doran Grant Home? - LostLettermen.com

Doran Grant, the No. 1 cornerback in the country according to Rivals.com, lives in Ohio, home of the crushing sports disappointment. And Grant goes to high school at Akron's St. Vincent-St. Mary's, home of the master of crushing sports disappointment, LeBron James. As signing day nears, Buckeyes fans sit and wait to find out if this star defensive recruit will take his talents to the state up north.

Grant is more than the No. 1 corner in the nation, he's also the No. 2 recruit in talent-rich Ohio according to Rivals.com. Some services rank him as the best recruit. Regardless, Ohio State is expected to reel in the defensive recruit because, well, he?s from Ohio.

But that may not be the case.

The biggest challenger to the Buckeyes might be a school from up north and, surprise, it's not the Wolverines. Grant's father Ted Jones was a star wideout for the Spartans and following his visit to Michigan State, Grant had nothing but good things to say.

Doran Grant Still Will Not Tip His Hand

By Tim Bielik (Ohio State Featured Columnist) on December 18, 2010
BleacherReport.com

While Ohio State has been good at getting big names out of the state of Ohio this year, the biggest concern is that Akron DB Doran Grant, the top DB left on the board, is still playing things close to the chest.

Grant, a prospect with incredible burst and athletic ability despite being less than 6'0" tall, is still undecided between Ohio State and Michigan State, where his father played college ball.

Spartans, Buckeyes square off for prized Ohio prospects
Detroit News
Last Updated: December 16. 2010 1:17PM .Sam Webb: Recruiting

Michigan State and Ohio State didn't lock horns on the football field this fall, but they certainly have been doing so on the recruiting trail. The Big Ten co-champions are currently competing for two of Ohio's finest football prospects -- Cleveland Glenville offensive guard Aundrey Walker and Akron St. Vincent St. Mary's corner Doran Grant.

. . .

Grant has a similar dilemma on his hands. The two programs have competed for the leadership perch in his recruitment for months. The Spartans did their best to create some separation during the official visit.

"The visit to Michigan State was great," Grant told Scout.com. "I got to spend a lot of time with the coaches, and some of the players and other recruits. LeVeon Bell was my host. Once I met LeVeon, I felt comfortable right from the start. The people and relationships I have built with the players already there is solid."

Furthering establishing that camaraderie may have been the highlight of Grant's time in East Lansing.

"I loved those guys," he said regarding the Spartans players. "They are all like brothers. They all hang out together. It doesn't matter if you're a fifth-year senior or a freshman -- it's all one group. I've heard it's not like that everywhere.

"Right now it's dead even between Michigan State and Ohio State. I have settled down on those two schools, but I am also going to look at a few others as well. I'm not sure if I will take official visits (to those other schools) or not."

The only firm destination on Grant's docket is his trip to Columbus this weekend.

"I'm gonna compare the two," he said of Spartans and Buckeyes. "I'm looking to see if I feel as good there as I did at Michigan State.

"It'll be about where I'll get the most playing time and where I'm comfortable living."

Five-Star DB Visits Bucks

Scout $ - 12/19

By The Bank....Recaps his official visit to Ohio State this weekend. Says he's unsure if he'll take anymore official visits and plans on announcing at the Under Armour Game. Calls Ohio State & Michigan State his top two schools and says they're even at this point.

I have a feeling that there will be some huge announcements at the UA game in favor of tOSU. I believe it has been confirmed that Walker, D. Grant, and Gorman are setting up to announce there. And with the two Millers and Shazier there, it just makes it even more likely.
