CB Doran Grant (Official Thread)

I wonder if lebron is recruiting him to osu. I hate lebron, but that would be nice.

LeBron did nothing to you and he has nothing to do with Doran's recruitment. Doran will choose the school that he feels is best for him. Only he knows what's important to him because if it came down to just the schools and the football traditions it wouldn't be close.

Only 2 posts, but this one's a good one. I agree.

What would be wrong with Doran choosing MSU?

We don't have the recent tradition you have, but we are working on getting there. Your tradition could have been our tradition had we not screwed it up.

We were once the power of the Big Ten, until we choked it away with stupid hires like Muddy Waters, the probation of Denny Stolz, Darryl Rogers winning a Big Ten title while on probation that caused us a Rose Bowl birth, then bolting for AZ St. The Perles power play to be AD. All in all, a total embarassment to all MSU fans for decades.

MSU football finally has stability, and is being rewarded for it.

We are pulling in better recruits, finished 11-1 this year. Beat Wisky. Our AD and athletic programs are finally on the same page, and the Dick Rod fiasco at um certainly has helped in-state recruiting in MI.

MSU is looking up, why not Doran coming into the fold?

Doran would look good in Green, and make more of an impact at MSU than he would at tOSU if PT means that much to him right away.

His Dad being a Spartan certainly helps our cause.

Nothing wrong with him choosing MSU but us ohio folk like to keep the homegrown talent, well at home. I disagree with your PT statement though, because there will be plenty of opportunity for PT in the OSU defensive backfield. In the end I think most here see him choosing OSU.

It's not so much "why not MSU" as much as it is Ohio State folks who have been following recruiting for years playing the odds.

Ohio State keeps a whole lot of its in-state talent, especially in Doran's neck of the woods. And no offense intended whatsoever, but when its down to two schools, we're going head-to-head with a Big Ten school outside of TSUN for an in-state kid, and we didn't wait a long time to offer, Ohio State gets that kid. Doran's case is a little more complicated than that with his father being an MSU alumni. With that said, we've landed in-state kids whose fathers are TSUN alumni from the Schembechler days (Anthony Gonzalez and TJ Downing are a couple good examples that don't have the last name of Boren), so OSU recruiting followers are confident Doran will follow suit and stay close to home.

I think MSU would have a much better shot if Ohio State had waited to offer him and MSU was one of his early offers, but the Bucks have been after him hard and sent him a written offer the first day they could receive an official offer.

Anyone can claim 50/50 odds on Doran, but folks that know ins and outs of recruiting in this state know OSU has much better odds of signing him.

One solid year does not a Renaissance make.

We were once the power of the Big Ten

MSU was never THE power in the B10. What were MSU's best years, 1953-1966 (they joined in 53 for athletics so that is the best starting point)? Guess which team had a better winning percentage in that timeframe? Ohio State. Guess which team won more B10 titles. Ohio State. NC's are similar for the major polls (there are a ton, but if you go by AP and UPI, it's MSU 1 and OSU 2).

So, even in MSU's best years (50 odd years ago), they were never the power in the B10.

I am not saying Doran would not go to MSU. Just pointing out your rosy view of your program is a little too rosy.

And there is the difference between OSU, OU, NEB, USC, and a few of the other powers of CFB and the MSU's and Colorado's of the world. We don't screw it up. To maintain this long is what makes OSU the power it is and always will be. I love MSU, but if I'm a big name recruit and have an offer from both, it would not be a hard choice.

Does anyone know how many people are allowed to be paid for on an official visit? Can a visitor bring his Mother, Father and Brother with him? Just wondering.

Only the player's airfare and travel expenses are paid for...family members have to pay their own way (is my understanding). NavyBuck could probably clarify that...
