CB Dominic Clarke (transfer to Illinois State)

This. While Meyer says he doesn't want to use language like "making an example," how can he not? What he does here defines how he will handle transgressions by players in the future.

I think there's a difference in semantics between "making an example of somebody" and "setting the standards for expected behavior".

I think Urban was saying that he wasn't going to punish Clarke any more severely than he would other players in the future in order to get everybody to notice how strict he'll be if they break team rules. He needs to be consistent in how he handles things.

But it's also obvious that everybody (team members, media members and fans) will be watching closely to see how he handles his first team discipline issue.

Clarke's prior transgression, although it was before Meyer came on board, will also get factored into his punishment.

When you're doing it while OVI'ing, it can become an issue.

(And I won't pass judgement on Clarke, as I don't have a clean driving record myself :()
Yeah. I meant just those in general. If all of it was while OVI, then the point is moot on the latter two in terms of effect.

Best of luck to Clarke. Hope he straightens things out and makes the most of the rest of his eligibility elsewhere.

From a team perspective, I'm glad to see that they're willing to make these kind of moves. Not that my opinion matters, but I was starting to get tired of some of the rationalizations that were being made for keeping certain guys around in the past. Granted, this kind of thing is easier for a new coach since he hadn't developed a relationship with many of these guys yet and hadn't promised anything to these guys and their families to get them to come to Ohio State. I don't know if it will continue with the some of the kids Meyer brings in, but for the moment it's a breath of fresh air.

I agree with most here, hate to see him released but great to see Urban run a tight ship. I was worried about how Urban would handle these kind of issues considering he once only suspended Brandon Spike for a quarter (or half) of a game after trying to injure a kid on the field. Our guys have to realize everyone is accountable. Wish dominic and other players could have kept their stuff together. Wish him all the best whenever he lands.
