I'm not sure if it was a crime (the law) or a "crime" (university policies).
FIFY. Since the media have described him as having been "arrested," I'm assuming someone has alleged the former. Just seems pretty iffy to me, though I'm not defending what sounds a lot like a stupid, though ultimately harmless, prank.

Ah. Good clarification... thanks.

I hear your point, though- I know a lot more damage that's come from surgical tubing/water balloon launchers than airsoft/BB/paintball "weapons".

Either way... not smart.

http://www.hhs.gov/opa/familylife/t...rain/Development/prefrontal_cortex/index.html
The prefrontal cortex, the part of the frontal lobes lying just behind the forehead, is often referred to as the "CEO of the brain." This brain region is responsible for cognitive analysis and abstract thought, and the moderation of "correct" behavior in social situations. The prefrontal cortex takes in information from all of the senses and orchestrates thoughts and actions to achieve specific goals.
...
This brain region gives an individual the capacity to exercise "good judgment" when presented with difficult life situations. Brain research indicating that brain development is not complete until near the age of 25, refers specifically to the development of the prefrontal cortex.
...

With an immature prefrontal cortex, even if teens understand that something is dangerous, they may still go ahead and engage in the risky behavior. Recognizing the asynchrony of development of the regions of the brain helps us to see adolescent risk-taking in a whole new light. This broadened view of risk-taking and the concept of self-regulation are explored in the next section.

I may or may not have been witness to a number of water balloons being launched at the Flying Tomato in the late '80s via a slingshot at over 200 yards away. :paranoid:

I have never witnessed someone get dropped to their knees from a water balloon slingshot. It never happened and that's my story...

I'm at a loss to understand what crime was committed if no one was hurt and no property destroyed. Clarke claims he wasn't aiming at anyone or trying to destroy property, and given where he was doing this stuff, he clearly could easily have hurt someone or damaged something had that been his intent. So his comments are credible.

I guess you would have to find out if it is illegal to fire a BB gun either on campus or within the city limits.

Of course he is going to claim he was not aiming at anyone. If he was targeting people is he going to admit to it?

It probably could be argued that he didn't "target" because none have complained about getting "targeted". Or so we've heard so far.
And Carter, for his part, continues to show bad judgement.
Both need extra "guidance".

Or he was such a bad shot that he didn't hit anyone.

"I am presently incarcerated, imprisoned for a crime I did not even commit. "Attempted murder," now honestly, did they ever give anyone a Nobel prize for "attempted chemistry?" Sideshow Bob

Yeah, and I'm never the downer around here, but, you're lucky you didn't hurt anyone or get in a lot of toruble.

Between getting hit with an Airsoft/Paint Gun and a launched water balloon, I'll take the airsoft/paint gun and it's not even close. There's a hell of a lot more energy in the water balloon after 200 yards.

At my fraternity house, water baloon launchers and potato guns were banned. Actual firearms were not.

Ahhh. Momma raised no dumb children. I said 'witnessed,' not 'engaged in'... I knew for a fact that someone was asking for trouble with that move. The only thing I was guilty of was watching someone be stupid. I guess me and Chris Carter have something in common.
