CB Dionte Allen (Official Thread)

Another Allen looking at Spartans?

One of the top recruits in the nation in 2007 was Orchard Lake St. Mary's defensive back Dionte Allen. He was the No. 2 prospect in Michigan and No. 40 prospect in the country, according to Rivals. He committed to Florida State over offers from MSU, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

Allen battled injuries early in his Seminole career and never fulfilled the lofty expectations. Early this week, Allen decided to leave Florida State and was granted his release.

If Allen transfers to a Division I school, he will have to sit out this fall, but he will retain one year of eligibility. The Spartans will lose cornerback Chris L. Rucker to graduation after this season, MSU could be a place Allen looks at closely.

Allen is close friends with former Big Ten men's basketball player of the year Kalin Lucas and was teammates of MSU's Dion Sims and Jon Misch. Allen will likely enroll in a school this fall so he can begin practicing with his soon-to-be picked new team.

If I remember from back then, he was rumored to be committing to Ohio State after his commit to FSU.
Based upon this profile, I'm predicting Dionte will end up in Louisville.

Yeah it's kinda odd to have a big time talent who couldn't get playing time transfer to another big time school for his last year vs going to a smaller one in hopes of immediate palying time and showcasing skills to get drafted.

Since the Big 10 is such a comparatively slow and nonathletic conference he should be able to step right in and be first team though.

In all seriousness...glad to have him. Depth in the secondary is always something great to have especially with 3 starters on the way out.
