CB Devon Torrence (official thread)

I'm still amazed at the lack of publicity he's received as both a buckeye committ, and national recruit.

He's such a good athlete. As grad said in an earlier post, he's fast, fluid, has height, and instincts. I think he ends up at receiver by the time it's all over, but we'll see. He has the speed to be a deep threat, good hips for route running, good size/height, and would be a great yac receiver as well.

SPORTS SPOTLIGHT TODD PORTER

CANTON TWP. Tuesday was a welcomed quiet day for Devon Torrence's cell phone. The Canton South High School senior has long since declared his allegiance - at least for the next four years - to Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel and the Buckeye football program. Other schools quit calling a long time ago. Pro baseball teams? That's another story.
Torrence has received pro prospect questionnaires from every Major League Baseball team. He is a rare two-sport standout, good enough to get a full-ride scholarship to Ohio State AND to be drafted as an outfielder this summer.
Cont'd...

"Would I change my mind?" Torrence said. "I don't really know right now. I haven't given it much thought. I'm focused on going to Ohio State and playing. ... It depends on how I do in baseball. If I do pretty well, I'll have a decision to make."
Torrence, however, can't imagine himself not wearing scarlet and gray this fall.
"I just really want to play college football," Torrence said. "That's something I've been working on my whole high school career. All I've been wanting to do is play at Ohio State. Imaging it not happening is something I try not to do even though the situation would be good playing baseball."

I am still just holding out hope that he decides to play football and baseball at tOSU and not go the MLB route if he gets drafted...

I still think that MLB talk is just that at this point...I have a friend who was a scout for the Atlanta Braves here in Ohio and he told me that high school prospects are often projected way higher than they will actually go just so they can be enticed into passing up college.

Yeah I have heard that as well...But you just hate for a kid to get caught up in that and make the wrong decision if he does get drafted...
