CB Denzel 'Hurt! My! Feelings!' Ward (All B1G, All-American, Pro Bowl, Cleveland Browns)

Seriously?

I compared the two because at some point it’s coming. Those same people that “respected” his decision to skip a pointless game will be asked the same question when the game has significant value (playoffs). Will their responses be the same?
I can't speak for everyone, but answer would not change. And I think we're closer than some realize to a kid sitting out a CFP game... The elite kids grow up wanting to play on Sundays not Saturday's, and CFB fans will never understand that

a refresher for those who think they're justified for questioning ward:

may 2016:

nobody here has walked in ward's shoes. nobody here knows if something that weighs heavily on denzel's mind is making 100% sure that his mom is taken care of for the rest of her life.

for those who hint at ward or players like ward being selfish, shut your freakin' piehole and get over yourself. these players owe you nothing. not a damn thing.

indeed

using the numbers from my previous post; Ward has about $9MM guaranteed right now, could do nothing but risk losing it by playing and his mother recently lost her husband unexpectedly...all that and, by Urban Meyer's own account of the situation, the kid was STILL torn between playing and not playing up until a day or two before the game...but online superfans want to question the kids loyalty.

Amazing

It's his life, his body and his money. He has earned it.Fuck superfans, go get yours young man.

It’s not a problem today because DW sitting out doesn’t affect the $$$$$ for the Cotton Bowl NCAA Big 10 or Bucks. What must terrify college ad’s if all the draft eligible Buckeyes and Trojans decided it was best for them to sit.

Ward doesn't really have a legacy. JT is the most prolific Buckeye QB of all time. Saying that Ward didn't make a sacrifice implies that he doesn't give a [Mark May] about Ohio State or his teammates. There's no reason to think that.
Ward sure has a legacy now: sitting out a bowl game. Which is too bad, because he had one of the all-time great lockdown-corner seasons we've seen around here.

I don't, I think it would be a great idea to hold coaches to that standard and get hit with a financial penalty for leaving early. Also, I don't consider a top bowl game a "meaningless exhibition"...I consider it the conclusion of what the team has been working for all year.
So the adults shouldn't be punished for doing the same things that kids are chastised for? Gotcha. :roll1:
Gotta love that POV, where the guys getting paid can do what they want, leave schools when they want with no penalty, but a kid transfers and he has to sit a year, if he looks out for his draft stock and sits a game, then fans go after him.

And a top bowl game is only played to pad the pockets of schools and the bowl sponsors, none of them give a good god damn about any of these kids. Fans can chant and pump their fists, but of a kid gets injurd HS forgotten in a blink of an eye and not one fan would pay his future bills, and look out for his financial future if there was an injury. And spare me the insurance BS because they won't pay near what an NFL salary would. Football players go to school for the same reason all kids go to college, to prepare them for their future profession.

I think some are not necessarily questioning his loyalty but rather where the game of college football could be headed.

So I guess the legacy of Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey is sitting out a bowl game too. I can bet that Ward would haves no problem with their futures... And both of them were still drafted in the 1st round. For the fools who think that GMs care that much about kids sitting out a bowl game, there you go. If there's enough film,a team will take them.

Of course now will be the responses of the fanboys saying "if I was GM I wouldn't take him". Yeah, and you're the idiot who wouldn't be a GM for very long either

Exactly.

Part of this post is really poignant - Ohio State has the 3 douchenozzles they put on TV, but there is a growing contingent, especially online, of superfan wannabes who think they know more than the coaches, make ridiculous claims (like one guy claimed NFL teams were only at Ohio State games to check out Dwayne Haskins at one point this season) and other general stupidity.

Kids like Ward have done nothing wrong while at the school and are doing exactly what you'd hope a responsible adult would do and that's do what is best for him and his family. It's part of the maturation process. Ohio State will be just fine and they were....

Never mind the 3 years of hard work, sacrifice, and good behavior.

He had the temerity to disappoint a sub section of the fanbase because he placed his own well being ahead of theirs and now they want to define his legacy.
