CB Denzel Burke (All B1G, All-American)

Wasn't Denzel locking down receivers in single high vs Oregon?

Haven't gone back to watch and chart snaps. But DB is aggressive underneath and on first break, almost in the way that Gamble was. Is that because of understanding where his help is and how to anticipate and play routes within the defensive structure? Or because he's just that damn good? Heart says the latter. Can't doubt Denzel's physical gifts and he has put in work against decent talent. But Dotson is likely a 1st round pick. So holding him in check really begins to changr that feeling from "potential" elite flashes and puts it into the realm of concrete results, with film to back it up, against one of the very best.

So, I’d say he made it through the bulletin board material relatively unscathed. A quiet night is a good night from him after his comments. I hope he doesn’t do it again and I’m glad it didn’t come back to haunt him.

He's a CB, they talk. Especially the good, really good and great ones! As long as he backs it up, he can run his mouth all he wants! Marshon, Bradley, Damon, all chirped and stepped up when the lights were on

BIG TALK BURKE
Denzel Burke was on the field for 75 defensive snaps and recorded two tackles against Penn State. He bounced between covering Jahan Dotson and Parker Washington throughout the game. Per Pro Football Focus, Burke was targeted just twice and allowed only 13 yards.

With just under six minutes remaining in the third quarter, Penn State was facing a 2nd-and-8 from its own 23-yard line. It appeared Burke blanketed Washington. However, the referee flagged him for pass interference.

A shame the refs didn't adhere to this high standard of penalty calling when it came to the Nittany Lions' offensive line.

yeah most of those yards Dotson and Parker got were against the zone. Maybe we should've mixed in more man, especially on third downs

That was what I saw live, Burke didn't appear to give up to give up a reception...or it was so minimal I don't remember. Either way, I think he was dominant in the way nobody remembers because he didn't fill up a stat sheet. I was pretty young and maybe I'm wrong, but I think Shawn Springs was pretty similar. Maybe not in his true freshman season though from what I can remember, but if we never hear his name called because the other team won't throw at him, mission accomplished.

You remember correctly. Springs jut took a guy and that was essentially all she wrote.

Story was that when they played ASU in the Rose Bowl he told their WR "if you don't try to embarrass me I'll let you have two"

No idea if true or not but it sounds cool.

That receiver was Keith Pool and after he made his first and only catch of the Rose Bowl Springs famously told him “ok, that’s your one.”
