CB Davison Igbinosun (National Champion)

Mixed feelings about Igy. But if he stays he has to stop with the holding and pass interference stuff. It's inexcusable.
Birm mentioned on his podcast today he doesn’t think they can afford to keep Igbinosun and Mathews at the same time, in which case I wish Igbinosun the absolute best in the draft and say let’s ride with Matthews.

I heard the same. Given the work that DI should be putting in to clean up some of the penalties, it is a bit of a head scratcher that he could demand so much. If it were an issue of ‘not enough reps’ or similar, I could understand. I struggle to find the value that some must perceive he commands. Is it him or is it others’ perceptions of NIL value?

Would I want him and his experience and dawg back on the field? Absolutely. But as you say…

Hmm I mean we lose a lot of payroll though lol
Right? I have to imagine that Birm knows far more than we do… and far more than what he’s leading on… but that was my first thought as well.

But then in a similar conversation on the topic, there was a discussion of how every year is pretty much free agency and contract negotiations… as such, if they have to free up funds to keep JJ, Tate, etc. the funding may be more fungible across the entire team as opposed to dedicated to position groups. That’s all I can come up with.

Yeah, I heard that too, but don't believe it to be true. If Igy wants to stay and the coaches want him to stay, the money will be there.

I mean JJ is the big one and to be honest I wish he could just go pro haha.

Sounds crazy but we all know he’d start for what maybe all but 2 teams?

It’s going to take 4+mil to secure JJ so that’s a big increase but he’s worth it with the way he changes the defense.

It probably depends on his draft grade. Ohio State would need to shell out comparable money to whatever draft grade he is getting, and then they’d have to throw Matthews starter (and probably next first round draft pick) money on top of it.

It’s also a matter of prioritization and strategic allocation of resources.

With Scott, West, Styles and Sanchez sitting there behind Matthews, is it a good investment to bring Igbinosun back (especially if he’s getting a 1st or 2nd round grade) or should you be looking more at positions of need?

As much as it sucks, I think there’s similar factors at play with Tate. If other teams are throwing stupid money at him and he wants it to be matched, I’m cool with rolling with Smith, Innis, Graham, Rodgers, Witten and the incoming freshmen at WR for the same reasons (and it’s entirely possible that’s not what Tate does and he sticks around).
