CB Davison Igbinosun (National Champion)

No doubt, there's a balance to strike, certainly would like him back this year. He's a good corner.
I guess that’s what frustrates me so much. He’s SO freaking good, and he can be a complete shutdown CB, but then he just has a brain fart and grabs a guy and gives momentum back to the offense. He has every physical tool available to be great, and I just don’t want him costing the team a big game because he’s he can’t he’ll himself. Hopefully This is cleaned up massively in the off season of he returns

Yes, but that aggressive play caused a 1st down late in the game that should've been a lose of downs on the TE. Which then ended up in a TD. If ND actually had a better pass game that could've been much worse. If Iggy returns, that should be a major worry against Texas, and honestly that will be a worry all year. OSU was able to win with him, but I worry that it becomes a liability
You also neglect to point out the impactful plays he made. Think back to PSU.

Trust me man, the holding and PI calls are maddening. Obviously he’s good enough to start for two years at OSU though, so there’s something to be said for the prospects of bringing him back for another year.

anyone hoping he goes pro is crazy lol… yes he took too many penalties but he was still very good in coverage and he’s a physical dude. Plays with an edge and we don’t have a ton of those types in football anymore.

If I’m being honest I’d love to see him come back, put on 10 pounds and become a safety next to Caleb.
iggy is a dawg… pure and simple.

we need as many we can get. now maybe more than ever.

He can't seem to play press without holding since he doesn't seem to know how to back pedal. As soon as the receiver levels with him (which is like a split second), he starts to panic and grab. He needs to work on that hard this off season or his NFL dream may not last long...if he is even drafted.

I was surprised that the ND OC didn't start throwing his way more as that will sure get a penalty every other play.

I want him back next year if that is his decision, but the bad came close to outweighing the good this season imo. Having played the position, I realize that PI calls are going to happen. But Iggy's were so flagrant and repeated, and often at critical points in games where I thought it was going to cost us a game.

He is going to have to get that in check whether it is here or at the next level, and I hope he does because he is seriously talented and the edge he plays with discussed above is great if he can channel that in without the penalties. I just don't know if that will happen after seeing the same mistakes two years in a row, but hopefully he keeps getting good coaching and puts a serious emphasis on cutting down the PI's.

i’m not sure the issue he has is so much with backpedaling as much as it is with his hip rotation. maybe that’s the downside of a guy his size.

I'd say the good and bad were a wash and that's not what I want out of a veteran starting CB. You can stomach and maybe even appreciate an aggressive mistake/penalty now and then, but it's the stupid mistakes and repeatedly inept play leading to penalties that don't make sense and would sit him down. I agree with B1, above; I don't know why he wasn't targeted more. He was the obvious weak link in my estimation. The frustration is that the glaring mistakes should be coachable and should've been sorted in the off-season. I'd argue that they were worse this season than the previous year. Yes, highlight play against State Penn when we needed it, but he's a liability on every deep ball.
