Chimdi has benefited from the push from the front four, and the hurried throws of the harried qb. On any of the replays I've seen, he does get burned by the better than average wide-outs, maybe more than the coaches would like. Understanding that he lines up on the best WR the opponents have to offer, he does well.
Lindy's and Athalon do not seem to list him as one of the 'best' CB's out there, which is incongruent with what the hype has been. It doesn't look like QBs are afraid to throw his way, and at the end of the day, OSU's back 4 had one of the smallest yards allowed averages. I do know that he'll be missed next year, as he and Torrance will be moving on to the 'Pay for Play' people. Any thoughts of the omission? Was he a finalist for the DB award? If not, why not.......any thoughts?

8. Chimdi Chekwa, Ohio State (6-0/190, Sr.)
BUZZ: Chekwa is heading into his third season as a starter. He has three interceptions and 20 pass breakups in his career. He made a career-high 43 tackles last season.
Asst coach Taver Johnson says Chimdi Chekwa practiced today, looked good and should play Thursday

Chekwa Named Big Ten Player of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State senior cornerback Chimdi Chekwa was named Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week after intercepting a pair of passed in the No. 2 Buckeyes' 36-24 victory over Miami last Saturday.
Chekwa, a native of Clermont, Fla. and East Ridge High School, also broke up a pair of passes while adding six tackles, including one for loss. Both interceptions came in the final seven minutes of the first half and helped give the Buckeyes a 26-17 halftime lead.
The honor was the second-consecutive Defensive Player of the Week award for Ohio State after Tyler Moeller earned it last week.
Chimdi Chekwa/CB/Ohio State: Chekwa picked off a pair of passes, broke up two more throws and added six tackles in the victory over Miami. His play helped the Buckeyes hold the Hurricanes offense to just 10 points. Chekwa offers an enormous amount of skill but has shown minimal consistency the past three seasons. Scouts want to see more performances the likes he turned in on Saturday, which was a good start for the talented senior.
I was really unimpressed with the Ohio State cornerback play this weekend. Devon Torrence simply plays too high in his drop and it takes him so long to regain balance and close on the football on passes in front of him. Some of those deep outs he gave completions up on were in the air for an eternity and he never even got close when asked to drive on the football. Chimdi Chekwa, on the other hand, despite his opportunistic two picks, isn?t real impressive in press coverage off the line, is really leggy when asked to turn and run and consistently allowed receivers to easily get behind him. Both guys are gifted size/speed athletes, but are so raw technically that it really takes away from their ability to make plays on the football in man-coverage. Both look at best like reserve-type options in the NFL to me.
He completed a football GM and scouting course from Sports Management Worldwide, studying under Marc Trestman and Russ Lande, and has published scouting reports for NFLSmackdown.com, Scout.com and NFLDraftscout.com. He’s a member of the Football Writers Association of America.
