He was going to come back regardless of his performance yesterday. One reason is because he has a hip issue and it may require surgery and he'll be out for around 6 weeks which gives him no time to prepare for the combine.

He'd have to come back regardless....he has a lot to work on. If he were to leave, I wouldn't see him going in the first 4 rounds. As stated already, his ball skills need a lot of work. For a cover-corner, he's had a lot of trouble in man coverage. Combine that with his lack of physicality, and leaving with a year of eligibility left would have been a very poor decesion. He can raise his stock next year with a solid season. As opposed to a guy like Brian Hartline who was going between round 3-5 no matter when he left.

I agree, but his draft reports came back as him being a late 2nd to early 3rd guy. Of course he can imporve, and I fully expect him to.

What is the one thing you like to hear about DB's - fluid hips, right?

If that highlighted is true it certainly means he is playing well under 100%.
I mean, who knows how solid a performer a fully healthy Chekwa might be?

A piece of his bone is broken and it's kind of like....piercing his tissue around his hip, I guess you could say.

Not that this is a great surprise, all things considered, but good choice by Chekwa. Get healthy, get degree, get into the NFL after a successful season in top condition.

(Do you think MGoBlog will need some revision of their earlier "tOSU 21 Departures !1!! - Big 10 all even with TSUN" blog post?)

If he works on and masters turning on the ball in man-coverage (no small task), he can be a second rounder next year, I think.

Chekwa Stays For Senior Season

Cornerback will play for Ohio State in 2010*

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Defensive back Chimdi Chekwa announced this afternoon that he has decided to stay at Ohio State for his senior season.

A statement from Chekwa:

“I am not ready to leave Ohio State, and I am looking forward to my senior season. I prayed about this decision and talked about it with my parents, and I know this is the right decision for me.“

I will graduate next fall, and I am looking forward to being a leader on what can be a very special defense for the Buckeyes. After the Rose Bowl win, we are working toward accomplishing more great things, including another Big Ten title and a run at the national championship.”

Chekwa, a product of East Ridge High School in Clermont, Fla., has recorded 103 tackles during his three-year career. The honorable mention all-Big Ten selection led the Rose Bowl champion Buckeyes with seven pass breakups this season, along with an interception.*

Chekwa, who also was part of the Buckeyes’ 2009 Big Ten champion 4x100 relay team, has made 27 career starts for Ohio State. A member of the Big Ten all-academic team, he is scheduled to graduate in December with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.*

Predicting draft positions 16 months from now would only be guessing. One thing I do know is that Chimdi has tremendous speed. A solid improvement in coverage skills to go along with a 40 in the 4.3's can push a player a long way up the draft board. Glad to have C.C. back in a Buckeye uniform for another year.

This was a pleasant surprise

I expected CAM to be back, but to hear it was great.

Chimdi may or may not be the force that CAM is and will be; but he is at a position that would have been thin without him.

Very happy to see him back
