CB Bradley Roby (2x All B1G)

We definitely need to wait and see how this one plays out. From the sketchy info out there, this sounds like it could be a simple dustup with a bouncer, for which a felony could be an overshoot with a lesser plea bargain the eventual result.

Hopefully. I'm willing to concede much more grey area here than in the case of Hyde. Still, there's no way that Roby can stay on the team, practice or play if he has a felony indictment hanging over his head.

Battery with bodily injury in Indiana is a Class C Felony with a potential of 2-8 years in a pound me in the ass prison. My guess from reading the various levels, is that it would get plead down to a Class A misdemeanor, but that won't happen quickly. If the indictment is legit, he needs to be gone!

Per his report, it is currently at Class A misdemeanor...

Per multiple reports and posts on this thread, he has been charged with a misdemeanor, not a felony.

Well, that opens the door somewhat. It'll be interesting to see how zero tolerance UM is these days and to what degree his hands might be tied in such matters.

Even with the best case scenario of some plausible self-defense argument, Roby is still out for several games.

Agreed. I'd be happy with a 4 game suspension. But again, much more details need to still come out for Roby.

Edit: happy in the sense of it being fair IMO.

Which is the most serious type of misdemeanor, right near a felony. It could get pleaded down to a B or C, but this still isn't peeing and fleeing.

Yea. Assuming this is his first offense, and all he did was be uncooperative with bouncers and threw a dumb punch (this is the part that nobody knows much about yet), I would assume it would get pleaded down. But then again what do I know. I ain't no lawyer.

Again, I'll point out that in my experience, in Indiana, if you go to the bar, you ahve 50% chance of getting charged with a misdemeanor.

Shouldn't be there.

Ever.

One last thing: I know these cases aren't comparable, but didn't Frank Clark get suspended one game for a 2nd degree home invasion felony?

Home invasion in the second degree is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 15 years or a fine of not more than $3,000.00, or both.

If Roby is charged even with Class A misdemeanor, no way he's getting kicked off the team.

A person who commits a Class A misdemeanor shall be imprisoned for a fixed term of not more than one (1) year; in addition, he may be fined not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000).

Dave "baller status" Biddle just said on 97.1 he thinks it will be a 1 game suspension

I absolutely can't see that. Not without some clear and overwhelming evidence of self-defense or even dropped charges. In the wake of our program's previous troubles and the cloud (fairly or unfairly) hanging over UM's Florida program, a one game suspension for battery would be a fucking public relations nightmare.

I don't think for a second that Roby or Hyde are bad kids. Just kids. This stuff with alcohol happens every year.

I'll possibly concede that argument in the case or Roby. I and friends all had scuffles with bar employees in college. You, however, can't blame "devil booze" in the case of Hyde. I don't know a single person no matter how drunk who ever punched a woman in the face. That's just a bad person--drunk or sober.

meh. he'll probably cop a plea to some reduced charges, go do a diversion program and community service, and pay a fine. that's generally how 99% of all these bar scuffles with bouncers end up, especially with people with no prior records. so, if he cops a plea to disorderly conduct and does the above, I could see a 1-2 game suspension and meyer stripping him of being a team captain.

In ideal circumstances, that's what I think would happen. Unfortunately, this is not ideal circumstances. We're dealing with the backlash from the program's own previous troubles compounded by the UF arrest record and spotlight that Hernandez shown on it. Roby, unfortunately, picked the wrong time for this to go down. I'm going to say 3-4 games.
