Holy crap, Andre Amos smiled! Boone kept calling out to Andre during the postgame awards at the North/South game... saying "Andre Smile!" (while he was receiving his award)... then repeating "Man that kid never smiles" ...

On a more relevant note, Amos is telling reporters that he is coming to OSU as a DB.

All of those panicking at BN about who would play corner in the future now get to realize that we have two great corners in Amos & Jenkins, and probably a great safety in O'Neal (he needs some tuning if he's gonna play corner).

WR/DB Andre Amos: We saw him in both the North-South and the Big 33 and were impressed both times. He was listed as a wide receiver in the North-South, but was pressed into action as a defensive back when nobody else could match up with speedy Mario Manningham. After terrorizing the South in the early going, Manningham disappeared from the game when Amos came into the game on him. In the Big 33, he was assigned to cover what the Ohio coaches felt to be Pennsylvania's biggest receiving threat, tight end Tommie Campbell. Campbell had zero catches against Amos. What is extremely impressive is that Amos got it done against two totally different kinds of receivers, a shake-and-bake-and-burn guy like Manningham in the North-South and a power guy like Campbell in the Big 33. As good as he was on defense, don't count him out on offense. He has just huge hands that look big enough to let him catch a watermelon one-handed. Could help OSU as a DB as a freshman, though the talent logjam at wide receiver would probably cause him to redshirt if he plays offense. He is a potential two-way player.

Amos knew Maurice Clarett gave his number a stigma with fans.

"I got 13 because I wanted to kind of make a new name for the number," said Amos, who is competing at cornerback after being a stellar receiver at Middletown High School. "You always hear negatives behind the number, so I got 13 to kind of bring some positives to it."

He said he didn’t have anything against Clarett, the running back who helped the Buckeyes to the 2002 national title before a suspension ultimately ended his college career.

One of the players who has been impressed with Amos is senior safety Nate Salley.

"Andre Amos, he's shown me a lot," said Salley.

"I like him. He doesn't really know what he's doing a lot of times, but he'll fly around and hit somebody. I like him a lot," Salley said.

Salley thinks Amos has a shot to earn playing time as a true freshman. "I believe he could (play this year) if he gets his plays down. You love to be out there with a physical guy, a guy who is not scared to hit somebody. He's not a finesse corner. He'll got out there and check somebody up. I like him," Salley said.

Maybe not. We've only had one quarter of "trash time" in our first two games. If we go up big early on SDSU and Amos doesn't see the field when the subs are put in, then I'll agree...

Apparently they considered burning Amos' redshirt for the NW game due to their injuries at CB. Glad they didn't, but also thought that spoke dividends about Amos' talent. Can't wait to see what he can do next year in the spring game.
