Oh, I'd bet the body was in the trunk. But a body in the trunk does not mean you killed somebody. It means that a dead body was in the trunk. The State had the burden to show HOW she died, and who killed her. I think you can show that a dead body was in the trunk, but that is not enough to pull the trigger on a death penalty case.

I think the State over-charged her. Which is why she got off. If a bad mom is negligent in watching her kid - or even dosing her kid with something so that she can go out and party - if the kid dies due to inattention it is a bad thing to be sure, and likely criminal, but it sure as [Mark May] ain't Capital Murder either.

Gator, good retort, but one that I think really only works for those predisposed to being a skeptic. How does the evidence of the stuff in the trunk and the expert testimony thereto point to Casey as merely being a sociopath? Why would a sociopath not want the police to find the body if she had nothing to do with the death? I don't think that claiming being sociopath relieves a person of responsibility or accountability across the board.

Then call it anti-social personality disorder. She disregards social norms, is deceptive and has no problem lying, is impulsive and reckless, and has no empathy or feelings of remorse when the cause somebody harm, instead blaming everything on others and rationalizing why they had to do what they did (which is because they wanted something to benefit them - they are extremely selfish)

Sociopath does not mean crazy killer, just that Casey does not give a shit about the harm that she may have done, will lie about it, rationalize why she had to do it, and not feel sorry for what she did. Again, that could be a mom who does not care if her daughter was killed by accident - or even by negligence. I think a manslaughter conviction or negligent homicide was possible, but the state went for the brass ring of Murder One, and had the impossible task of showing actual criminal intent beyond a reasonable doubt.

They couldn't prove how she died or who did it. That's kind of a problem in a murder case.

I think the outraged public is a bit too emotionally invested in the case. The jury, however, was sequestered from the nonsense and had to decide the case based upon their review of the evidence, testimony presented and credibility of the witnesses. I'll side with them.

I agree that strategically they should have considered not going for Murder One. But they also charged her with manslaughter, and she was found not guilty of that charge as well.

And, I'm still confused as to how being a sociopath provides a defense to the evidence of a deceased body in her trunk.

Also, apparently evidence was put on regarding Casey performing internet searches on chloroform during the relevant time, as well as borrowing a shovel from her neighbor. Assuming that Casey is a sociopath, and has no sense of remorse or empathy, shouldn't she have some explanation for these circumstances in the interest of defending herself from murder charges. (It turns out she didn't need an explanation, but you know what I'm getting at). It just doesn't make sense that there has been no credible story put on in rebuttal - the story about Caylee drowning in her parents pool - why would the entire family, including a former police detective cover that up?

If it weren't for having some good friends on there that I raely get to see I would dump it too. What I need to do is clean up my friends list and get rid of the people that added me because facebook said "hey, you and sos and so have 4 mutual friends, add so and so". There's about 50 people that I have no clue who they are or why I added them.
