I'm not all that hopeful to see Redd in Ctown, but most of that 20 mil comes in the 6th year. Through the 5 years the Cavs can offer the difference is a little more than a million. Redd has to think about what he is going to be like in 5 years. Will he still be a good player or will he be getting old? He's still young so he might be able to get another big contract in 5 years.

Personally I'm waiting to see how Jackson looks in the summer league, which starts today (I think). If he looks good then signing Redd becomes less of an issue. They could split the money between a SG and a PG if Jackson can be the shooter they need. By the end of last season Pavlovic seemed to be getting better with the whole catch and shoot thing as well.

it was also reported that nike execs were at the meeting with redd and the cavs as well. perhaps they are working out an endoresement deal that will offset any cash the bucks are offering.
DING DING DING DING We have a winner. That is the true wildcard in all of this. If LeBron gets Redd a bumped up deal from Nike to cover most of the $20 million the money reason becomes mute. Can't you just see LeBron & Redd in commercials together?

It will be interesting to see what happens over the weekend.

i have to think that antonio daniels is the top target at pg. he plays tough defense, and with seattle paying out some big cash to allen, daniels is likely out of luck. bringing in daniels and resigning Z would be an ok offseason. you have to think that sasha will increase production and jackson could add a boost, but they are far from reliable players on a nightly basis.

Brutus1, why would you believe some dickhead at ESPN over an anonymous internet poster? They both are just as likely to write whatever the hell they feel like and post it on the internet.

Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised if Redd ends up going back to Milwaukee, especially considering who his agents (the infamous Poston bros) are, but untill that happens, I'm holding out hope. The only silver lining to not signing him is that a 5 yr $75 mill contract is excesive for what Redd brings to the table.

I really don't think that a backcourt of that lithuanian pg and larry hughes would be all that bad. Hell, the cavs might even stumble across joe johnson if the Redd deal doesn't work out. It would juts be awesome to see two ohio guys leading the cavs into next season.

The whole Joe Johnson deal is odd. Since Phoenix has the right to match any offer(they say they will), they have 15 days after the offer to actually match it. Since deals can't be official until late this month, Phoenix would have until mid August (a little earlier) to match the offer. That pretty much forces teams not to offer JJ because you have to wait so long to find out if you get him. But, as the sg's keep signing with their original teams, it increases the chances of other teams of actually offering him, so hopefully the Cavs can make a decent offer that would scare off Phoenix from matching.

To this point, Phoenix has been giving him low offers. I would love to see him play for the Cavs.

How much cap room do the Suns have? Didn't they already give Nash a big contract last year? I would think if they give 2 guys big contracts it would be hard to sign AS who I'm sure is going to want a big deal in a year or 2.

I don't think they have alot of room left. They made the Richardson-Thomas trade to free up more monay for JJ, even though it was close to a wash in terms of the 'cap. They also signed Bell last week as a sg (backup).

I do know that they have to sign Amare S to a new contract after the 2005 season and am sure he's going to be a max player.

I've heard talk that the Suns were lowballing him because they figured no one wanted to wait so long (Aug 6th) to find out if they get him. There is also speculation that Phoenix said all along they would match any offer in hopes of scaring off temas from bidding on him , thus getting him for a better price.

You can now cross Redd off the list. Reported by ESPN, Redd's agents have said they will be signing with the Milwaukee Bucks. So two down... and now to the bottom of the barrell.

Exactly what I expected to happen. You just don't leave that much cash on the table. Even if the cash was the same(yearly it was close as poined out earlier), I just didn't see it.

He always said the Bucks would get 1st shot and he wanted to stay there. If Cleveland could have given him 20 mil more than the Bucks..he woulda left.

I think now you may realize that playing for the CAVS even with LeBron isn't that appealing to players. Heck, you had a home grown Redd who turned it down. I think part of that is someone might sign a long term deal and then LeBron could walk in 2.

Can they extend LeBron now? Not sure on all the contract mumbo jumbo, but that would eliminate any LeBron leaving talk and assure possible F/A's that he will be there for a long time.

I wonder what HE is thinking now that he was turned down by the two guys he sent a video plea to.

Anyway, anyone know about his contract and possible reworking or extending?

Edit: this still doesn't mean this was a great signing... he has A LOT of pressure on him now.... have to see how he responds in the next couple of years.

I don't think deals can be re-done in the NBA, at least for first time contracts.

I would have liked to have Redd, but the NBA has it right. Teams should have an advantage when trying to sign their own players.

Don't kid yourself, players are staying with their teams because it's 20 mill more of guaranteed money. I don't buy the thinking that the first 5 years are the same amount of money, it's that last year (probably the most money of the contract) that's the deal maker. Say Redd accepts the Cavs max offer of 1 year less and 20 Mil less, does anyone really believe he could get 20mil from the Cavs or anyone else for the 2010 season?

I really don't worry that LBJ will leave town after his contract is up. Unless management does something totally stupid, I just don't see it happening.

Due to NBA rules we can't extend his offer for another 2 seasons. It is in 3 years (heading into his 5th season) that he becomes a restricted free-agent ala Joe Johnson. We can sign him to a qualifying offer that would allow him to be a unrestricted free agent after his fifth year or we can sign him to a long term deal, or match any contract he is offered.

While Redd resigning with the Bucks is no real surprise, it was alot more wishful thinking he would come to Cleveland, it doesn't hurt to hope eh? It will now be interesting to see what Ferry's Plan B is. Do we make the offer to Joe Johnson to force Phoenix's hand? (Phoenix apparantly lowballed JJ on his contract offer since no teams are talking with him since everyone thinks Phoenix will match any offer) Do we go full bore after Larry Hughes (I hope not) or do we really look into signing a Curry, Dalembert or Swift and then sign&trade Z to get the shooter we desperately need?

Just starting to get interesting.

Good for Michael. I'm glad he got a big extension. As much as I wanted to see him come back home and play in Ohio, you gotta give him credit for sticking with the team that took a chance on him a few years back.

I'm not giving him credit for anything... comes a point in time when one needs to ask.. just how much do I need... and what kind of a life do I want to lead...

He'll be with Milwaukee forever.. since no one will ever trade for him because of his contract... and Milwaukee will be mediocre...

He could have taken a shot at the big one...Guess he can always buy his own Championship ring.. because he won't win one with Milwaukee...
