Cavs-Celtics Series 2010

You're really trying to equate an NBA GM throwing a towel 10-15 feet into the air with a bunch of college kids jumping at most a foot in the air? :roll2: . OK. Like I said in my previous post--I have a problem with this because it was an NBA GM, not Joe NBA fan, and it (throwing a towel 10-15 feet into the air) is something that (I'm speculating here, but I'm pretty sure I'm correct) no NBA fan is allowed to do during the course of a game.

...and why does it do so? Wait for it--because NBA owners are held to higher standards than Joe NBA Fan.

So what is so unduly unfair about throwing a towel that it makes it "bushleague"? I don't know if fans would be allowed to throw a towel in the air, but I suspect such a prohibition has nothing to do with it being unfair or bushleague, but rather because of other considerations.

The NBA doesn't have authority to fine fans. It isn't that they are held to a lesser standard.

OK back to my original point. I'll play. You objected to my calling Ainge's throwing the towel bush league and unsportmanlike. I'm not sure the former, which is slang, has a formal definition, but a Google search leads to definitions of some variation of the following: "of inferior or unprofessional quality." Well, Ainge himself later admitted that throwing the towel was unprofessional. So looks like you missed that one. "Unsportsmanlike" is defined as "not displaying the qualities or behavior befitting a good sport." Again, to the extent that Ainge admitted he acted in an unprofessional manner, it's hard to argue that he didn't fall within this definition. And, generally speaking, I think it's difficult to argue that a team representative who is seated under the opposing team's basket and launches a towel in the air at the precise moment an opposing player shoots the ball is exhibiting behavior befitting a good sport. No?

I'll be surprised if Ainge isn't fined.

But I'll be much happier if the Celtics end up throwing in the towel by the end of this series.

As predicted...

NBA fines Ainge $25K for actions

Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has been fined $25,000 by the NBA for tossing a towel to try and distract Cavaliers forward J.J. Hickson as he shot a free throw.

Ainge flipped a white towel over his head during the third quarter of Monday night's playoff game between Boston and Cleveland. Ainge was attempting to rattle Hickson, who made his second free throw despite the GM's actions.

Stu Jackson, the league's executive vice president of basketball operations, fined Ainge for "an unauthorized distraction and for conduct detrimental to the game."

I guess I can see the conduct unbecoming aspect of this fine because he is supposed to be held to a higher standard as a GM of a team by 25K seems a little harsh. Whatever. I don't know how many of you guys have played at what level of basketball but all of that stuff going on behind a basket should not even be noticed by the guy shooting the free throws if he knows what he is doing. I wonder what ever happened to the person:! who threw the beer bottle at the Q. Monday night. He probably was the person who should have been fined 25K

I have always hated the Celtics. I can't wait till they float off into irrelevancy in a couple years.

Cavs fans would definitely know about years of irrelevancy, which is where they'll be again if/when LeBron leaves town.

If anything...the playoffs are showing that the Cavs are not as deep as people think they are. Compared to Boston or Orlando, Cleveland does not have the depth to compete with them over a 7 game series. Boston is showing that speed can kill Cleveland. Rondo tore up their entire team yesterday with ease. If the Cavs get by Boston, they will have to face Orlando again, which is just as fast and overall a better team. Nelson will cut through Cleveland just like Rondo has done.

Boston and Orlando are the the two best teams in the East. I'd give Orlando the slight edge just because of how deep they are as a team. Both teams have players that can take over a game when one of their star players is having an off night. Cleveland does not have someone like that, who can take over if LeBron is having a bad day.

It will be interesting to see what happens...but i have a feeling Orlando will be back in the finals.

Were you saying this at around 10:00 pm on Friday? Just curious, because I notice people tend to say things like this after each Cavs loss, yet they're not saying the same things after the Cavs pistol-whip the Celtics.
