Cavs 2010-11 season (official thread)
I hate to be the sourpuss about the trade, but I just can't get happy about BD coming to the Cavs... I have no reason to believe he shows effort for the Cavs, and at $13mm per... well fuckingshit...

I actually like BD (circa 3 years ago, of course) and was excited when the Clips took him from Golden State because I thought I'd get to see an exciting player at a good ticket price... of course he basically retired for a couple years before he figured out its fun throwing 'oops to BG.

I hope he retires before his tenure is up... it's about time anyways
who cares about baron davis...if he never sees the floor for the cavs i could care less...guy is a bigger negative then positive

When the Cavs make this deal I don't think they plan on getting any production from Davis. If they can convince him that it's just as fun to throw 'oops to Hickson and Eyenga all the better. As a Cavs fan I'm looking at this more as they traded 2 guys that weren't in the long term plan for a lottery pick and Davis. Be nice if they could convince Davis to bust his ass for the rest of the season and maybe a few months next year so that they could flip him to a contender that needs PG help, but I like this deal even if Davis doesn't.

LIVE: Cavs GM Chris Grant press conference

by Jason Lloyd on February 24, 2011 - 12:08 pm

Opening statement
?We?d like to thank Mo and thank Jamario. Great deal of respect for both of them and to their families. One thing all of us tend to forget in this business they all have families and kids and have to go to school. We respect what they did for this franchise. Took us to some high levels.?
?Our scouting department just got a little busier, which is a good thing.?
On Byron and Baron?s relationship:
?No concern. Byron and I have talked about this throughout the entire process. Byron is totally on board.?
On buying out Baron:
?We?re keeping him. We?re excited about the player.?
Who?s the starting PG?:
?We haven?t even gotten into who?s going to start and who?s going to come off the bench.?
On ownership:
?There?s not a lot of guys in profesional sports who would step up to this level
Trade exception:
?The day is not quite still young, but there?s a few more hours. Generally big deals like that don?t go down in two or three hours. We?ll see what happens the rest of the day.?
Done today?:
?I don?t know. Do we have some stuff on the board? Yeah. Will it come to fruition? I don?t know yet.?

someone just asked chad ford this in a chat that i found interesting and true

Comment From matt matt: ] what are baron davis's/the cavs options in terms of having baron never actually play for the cavs? Thursday February 24, 2011 1:39 matt

Chad Ford:
Well, he's owed a ton of money over the next two seasons ... so I doubt the waive him or buy him out. But I could see a situation where he doesn't play until they find a home for him. But there's another alternative too. It's in Baron's best interest to come in and play terrific basketball for Cleveland. His trade value is nil unless he convinces some team he still has something left in the tank. He may be more motivated than you think to perform in Cleveland.

so the Clippers pick looks likely to be somewhere between 7 and 10

Terrence Jones
Donatas Motiejunas
Kawhi Leonard
Jimmer Fredette

Jimmer and Sullinger on the same team? That could sell some tickets if nothing else... (this is in general, not based on the draft link)

As for Baron, I agree with those that are saying he's pretty much inconsequential to the trade. If he plays and gives a crap, goodie, if not, no biggie, the DP is the only real currency in the NBA right now.

Alternatively, actually looking at that mock, Williams/Sullinger along with Leonard and Norris Cole in round 2 could be something. Cole would have a lot of local following and could play the point, and the top 2 picks could be the frontcourt of the future.

Just my off-the-cuff reaction, but I don't think the Cavs should take Fredette--an undersized shooting guard won't have success in the NBA that he's having in a non-AQ conference.

Right now, the Clips are sitting in the 8th spot. Their remaining schedule
is pretty tough. I'm expecting the Nets to play better with Deron Williams at the point. There's no reason to think the Clips can't realistically drop to the 6th overall spot , getting passed by Detroit (1/2 game better) and NJ (4 games better).

I can live with 2 of the top 6 picks or with any lottery ball luck, two in the
top 3, 4 or 5.

They'll get the first or so pick in the decond plus OK City's 2nd rounder, which is top 40 (or so) protected.

looks like Parker is going somewhere

The Cleveland Cavaliers are contemplating another major trade, this time to send Antawn Jamison back to the team where he began his career.

Sources close to the talks told ESPN.com that the Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors have been discussing trade scenarios Thursday that would send Jamison to Oakland.

One source briefed on the talks said the discussions are ongoing but that no trade agreement has yet been reached.

It was not immediately clear who Golden State would be willing to part with if the teams indeed came up with a workable trade framework before Thursday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline.

A deal to reacquire Jamison would work under the salary cap involving the expiring deal of Troy Murphy, whom Golden State acquired only Wednesday from New Jersey, as well as veteran center Andris Biedrins.

If such a deal featured Murphy going to Cleveland for Jamison, it’s believed that the Cavaliers would then buy out Murphy before next Tuesday’s deadline to keep the veteran power forward eligible to appear in the playoffs with another team.

Screw picking somewhere between 7-10, seems like someone from that area in the draft always moves up to the 2-3 slot in the draft.

Plus, what really would be sweet is Mo continues having problems staying healthy and thus the Clippers slip into the 5-7 area or god forbid Blake gets hurt. It is the Clippers afterall, it is in their destiny to trade 1st rounders that end up becoming a top 3 pick
