Ilgauskas Set Free: Former Cavalier and current Wizards' center Zydrunas Ilgauskas reached terms on a contract buyout yesterday that could result in him being waived by Washington later today. Sources with knowledge of the deal say that Ilgauskas surrendered more than $1 million of the remaining $4.1 million owed him ($3.6 million in contract dollars plus a $600,000 trade bonus). Ilgauskas will have to clear the NBA waiver process which takes 48 hours, and then he will become an unrestricted free agent.
Several contending teams have made their interest in Ilgauskas known including Denver, Dallas and Atlanta.
Ilgauskas who returned to his Cleveland home after clearing his required physical, is said to be leaning towards a return to the Cavaliers, but would have to sit out 30-days from February 18th, when he was traded, making him eligible to return to the Cavs on or about March 20th.
Ilgauskas' agent Herb Rudoy has been telling reporters that Ilgauskas will consider his options this weekend and hopes to reach a decision soon.
A return to Cleveland would center around the team's remaining $1.9 million Bi-Annual salary cap exception ? all four suitors for Ilgauskas can offer the same exception based offers.
