Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

You talk about Cleveland's situation (spending over the cap) as if that would continue if LeBron leaves.

Besides, is the idea that he couldn't possibly have it as good as a GM anywhere besides Cleveland supposed to mean something? Ferry shouldn't have to work another day in his life if he doesn't want to, lest we forget the 10-year guaranteed contract he got from the Cavs as a player. It's the kind of thing that allows him to walk away from the table in the first place if the situation doesn't feel right to him.

I'm not sure why it's a good GM situation to have your star player holding you hostage to make rash decisions left and right. I didn't like a lot of the moves Ferry made, but I understood that he was trying to show that he would do whatever it took to make a certain egomaniac happy.

If given the opportunity to build a team, I am confident Ferry can be successful. I'm sad to see him be another casualty of the seven-year failed LBJ experiment
.
Yeah, the best seasons in franchise history = failure. :roll1: Come on. Also, I still thinking those of you writing him off are being a bit premature.

What a completely clueless comment...

When a coach get fired, when a GM resigns, I think they are calling that a failure.

The goal is always to build a team capable of winning a championship. If you want to call 6 winning seasons and then back to sqaure 1 a success, that's fine. It's all relative. But this team will be farther from winning a title next year than it was 7 years ago when we won the lottery for Lebron. I call that regression from the ultimate goal.

This is all assuming, of course, what I've been saying for 3 years: Lebron is leaving.

What a completely clueless comment...

Clueless? The guy is planning a 5+ city tour to soak in praise for his talents... yet he hasn't won anything. Blame me all you want for turning on Lebron. You're late to that train. I turned on him years ago. Lately, I've had company.

Ferry would have made those moves even if Lebron was already signed to a twenty year contract. It had nothing to do with trying to make Lebron happy.

Izzo linked to Cleveland job

Tom Izzo insisted recently that he has no interest in coaching in the NBA until he wins at least one more NCAA title at Michigan State.
But that stance might not stop the Cleveland Cavaliers from trying to hire Izzo as their next coach.
The News-Herald in Northern Ohio reported on its website Sunday night that the Cavaliers -- fresh off dismissing coach Mike Brown and parting ways with general manager Danny Ferry -- have formally extended an offer to Izzo to replace Brown.

I'd love it. Izzo is an amazing coach and a guy who can get it done when it matters. I know it hasn't worked out for college coaches in the NBA in the past but I really don't care. Izzo can handle it better than guys like Calipari or Rick Pitino.

Izzo is one guy who I really want to hate but I can't help but like and respect the guy for just how good of a coach he is.

Come on guys... its Cleveland... we'll be lucky if we get the texting mad man Kelvin Sampson... IMHO its Phil or bust. a tricky situation since there is a no chance he comes to Cleveland without Lebron... Cleveland is suck in a vicious circle, and seeing what Lebron has done in the past if he doesn't leave he'll sign some BS 2 year deal and we'll be in the same situation as before.

Izzo becomes coach I will watch "some" basketball and become cleveland fan. With that said, Izzo becomes coach, James is coming back.

Izzo is CLASS....great guy, not sure if he could motivate overpaid wannabe rappers, but he'll try!!

In my view, the difference between him and guys like Cal & Pitino is that he can actually coach. Those other two guys are great recruiters/rule violators, but if they can't out-talent other teams they're not winning. Izzo consistently gets the most out of whatever players he has, and often his teams overachieve. That's one mark of a great coach, and that translates to any level.

Completely agree. Izzo is one heckuva coach, but apparently Izzo the longer it takes for Izzo to make some sort of decision the less likely of him joining the Cavs.
