Cavs 09-10 Season (official thread)

He is a good guy. And a good assistant coach. He is not, and never should have been, a head coach.
He's only 40 years of age, as well. [insert "I'm a MAN!"]

He has a lot to learn as a coach and really, he admits that himself. He'll grow and learn and I think he'll become a pretty darn good coach. I mean, coaching in the NBA at age 40? That's quite a feat and not anyone could do that. He's not done learning as a coach, though that journey won't continue in the city of Cleveland.

And I don't know where he went wrong to the point that the team quit on him, but it's still very petty and unprofessional for the team to do that. I don't care if LeBron didn't like all the rotations or coaching decisions, but to mope around and defy your coach (on the court and in the pressers) is childish. Simple as that. And he's now thrown away a good championship chance because of it.

Seriously, did someone overhear something they weren't suppose to or something? Gambling debt? Sex scandal? (:p) This team was as happy of a bunch of guys could be this season. LeBron supposedly has stood up for Brown in previous offseasons. Yet, now they are busting at the seams. They looked like a bunch of scrubs out the stands thrown together at the last second. Farthest thing from a team.

What the hell happened?

The Cavs need somebody who can manage the team with the kind of authority necessary to put guys like Jamison or Mo Williams on the bench when they're facing a bad matchup or playing like ass. Mike Brown was not that guy, and I don't think Calipari is either. There are only a handful of guys who I can think of who command that kind of respect (Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, Gregg Popovich or possibly Coach K), and none of them are coming to Cleveland.

You just need someone who understands match-ups, IMO. I understand what you're saying..maybe Brown saw the mis-matches but couldn't pull the trigger because he doesn't have the authority....but even a guy like Jeff Van Gundy, Stan Van Gundy, Mark Brooks, a whole host of others, I think would be smart enough to avoid huge mis-matches and put the team in teh best position to win.

Phil Jackson isn't a huge hot-head, but he makes moves that work. And he explains why in the oublic and I'm sure privately as well. Mike Brown never gave anything more than a company line about sticking with the game plan and executing. Executing what exactly, coach Brown? A defensive game-plan that calls for Andy Varejao and Ben Wallace to defend Rashard Lewis 30 feet from the hoop? Solid plan..I hope it's executed well.

I don't think Calipari would have been so stubborn to not allow LeBron to guard Rashard Lewis last year (BTW, LeBron was allowed to guard Rafer freakin' Alston last year, but wasn't allowed to guard Rajon Rondo for more than 3 minutes in game 6 and it worked and he still didn't get a chance in the second half), or keep a struggling Antwan Jamison in teh game with Hickson and Varejao on the bench. I just think Calipari is smarter than that. It's playoff basketball, it isn't time to stroke players' egos.

A better coach would beat Boston with the Cavs roster.

I dunno. I don't think people are giving Boston enough credit. They're really clicking right now (finally healthy). One of the problems is that a lot of people already had the Cavs going on to play the Magic before the series even started. They forgot they had to get past Boston first. This series should have gone 7 games, though.

While to an extent this is true, Boston was the 4th best team in the East and Brown has the best player in the world at his disposal. The adjustments that most any coach would have seen; Brown, simply did not, or blatently refused to make. Game 6 should have been an all out event. If he saw Jamison struggling (and it was VERY evident) he should have been yanked immediately.

On top of that, the attitude this team carries is a reflection of player leaders but mainly the coach. I didnt see a team that played with competitive fire aside from game 3.

Just a few short years ago this was the same group that was taking a superior Detriot to 6 & 7 games. Played with energy at both ends of the floor and absolutely would not have let an opponent win by 20+ on their home court.

This team needs to (re) focus, and I don't think Brown is the one to conduct that train.

You're being way too hard on Varejao, IMO. He's about the only Cav that showed up each game and showed some fight. Athletically, he was incredibly overmatched by most of the guys he was guarding in the series, but he looked like an absolute shut-down beast compared to Jamison.

Anyone who was a Cavs fan would expect more out of Andy overall in that series. It was not a good series for him although he was one of our better supporting players. He played much better in the regular season against boston.

Also why is everyone saying Lebron should go to Chicago to win? Can anyone on that team other than Kirk Hinrich shoot? Lebron needs to be on the floor with shooters and Chicago has one 3 point shooter! Deng, Rose and Gibson are good mid-range shooters but opposing defenses would just pack their defense in and dare them to shoot 3's. The pick and roll would be great with Noah, but Rose and Lebron both need the ball to be effective right now. Lebron would be good off the ball but he wants the ball in his hands. I don't see it unless they trade and acquire some 3 point shooters.

Uh, sure. ONce Magic destroys the Celtics, both of these teams will look like pretenders.

At the risk of agreeing with GOT (or should I say GOAT), Boston is gonna get smoked, making this series loss even more painful...

You think his ghost is the Greatest Of All Time?

Can a Cavs fan explain to me why JJ Hickson went 9-13 in the first 2 games with 12 ppg and then disappeared, not even appearing in the last 2 games.

And by explanation I mean anything other than "Mike Brown is a freakin moron"

Because Antawn Jamison was owning Kevin Garnett defensively, and we couldn't take the risk of losing that post-defender presence. If Jamison comes off the court, KG probably goes off.
