Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

I always hate trade deadline day. I always want us to make moves (even if it's not necessary), and we rarely do. I constantly look on different sports sites to see if we've done anything....and we don't. Damn, this is worse than NLOID. :(

But, I don't think we'll win the title if we can't get something done in these last 10 minutes.

This trade deadline is like football/baseball, where the teams can still make trades after the deadline it just has to go through a different longer process (not exactly sure how the process goes) or am I wrong?

Not that I know of. I think for a player to change hands after the deadline they have to be cut and then signed by the other team. No compensation.

Yeah... just odd the Cavs don't want to give up Wally. Wasn't the plan to trade him the whole time? Then to get gun shy at the deadline?

The kicker here is, does this tell us about how West looked as he was coming back? Cuz really if Phoenix insists on Wally & Sasha then I can see the issue. We would have zero backup SF, and if West looks like he might take some time to get back in the flow we only have Gibson/Kinsley at SG, with them rotating in at PG? That makes our backcourt REALLY thin.

But in the end this does seem like window dressing. Ferry had 3-5 guys he wanted and he couldn't get them as they weren't available or not as 'available' as Ferry was hoping for. Now he is just making a ton of noise to make up for the fact that he could not use the trump card of all trump cards in Wally's expiring contract at a time when half of the NBA teams are hurting financially and would love Wally's contract.

I do not think so although contracts can be bought out and guys can become free agents. Someone such as Joe Smith could have his contract bought out then he would be free to sign with any team he chooses.

Having a trump card is one thing. Being able to cash it in for something useful that doesn't have a toxic contract is quite another. If nothing gets done because the Suns insisted on Wally & Sasha and wouldn't send a G back our way somehow, then I'm glad Wally's still here. He's not worth what he's paid, but Wally is a useful player this season.

If the Cavs aren't willing to give up Wally for Shaq they aren't really trying hard. If the Suns are willing to get the deal done for Wally and Pavs I say go for it as long as they are willing to throw in Barnes or Tucker so that we have another guard.

I think the problem is that they want to get rid of Ben's contract if they're going to take on Shaq's. Both of those guys are under contract for next year and I'm not sure they can afford both.

Excuse me while I vent.

[rant] Pitiful....just pitiful. We keep Wally, who may be playing well currently, but it's only a matter of time before he starts taking bad shots and getting abused on defense again. I honestly didn't see or want him ending the year here. He's also not the easiest guy to get along with. I just don't see how we could balk on trade talks with 3, count'em THREE, teams, with a contract like his on the table. [/rant]

Now, that's out of the way.
