Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Agreed. It wasn't pretty to watch, but it's a pretty result. This game came with a lot of built-in excuses for losing, and the gutted out a win instead.

Going 3-1 on the west coast without two starters is a big deal, and after Boston came away from a similar trip looking lost, Cleveland has to be looking like the prohibitive favorite in the East.

Big win at the end of the road trip. Cavs continue to come up with big plays at the right time with different guys continuing to step up.

LeBron big again and cut down on the number of bad decisions that he made in the 4th qtr against the Warriors.
Mo has been huge in the 2nd half of the past 2 games. Sasha has maintained a solid consistent level of play with Delonte out. That he's been doing that has lessened the loss of West. Sasha actually had the best +/- on the team tonight.
Gotta like how Hickson is producing in the minutes he's been given. Only makes the future look even brighter.

Sasha continues to play well when he gets extended minutes...

Utah is a very tough place to play...Big win...3-1 on the road trip is huge...

Excited for the Orlando game coming up, but first they need to continue to take care of business at home against Sacramento...

sasha has done well. he'll make a handful of plays that make you say "that's the old sasha I know". Then he'll go on a streak like last night and sink a 3, then penetrate and make a great feed to lbj. those are plays he didn't make last year.

and JJ friggin Hickson.... people were slitting their wrists that the cavs took him over koufos and others. but, this kid has such a high ceiling and is just getting better each night.

No doubt about Hickson. In two years that guy is gonna be Amare Stoudemire plus defense.

Let's not get carried away, he's still a rookie. Amare Stoudemire is a ridiculous expectation of the kid.

There games aren't very comparable, IMO. But Hickson is going to be a good one. He's still very young, and he's shown a very fundamental game.

Amare is an athletic freak.

Guilty as charged. I personally wanted Chris Douglas-Roberts from Memphis. I thought he would be able to score 14-19 points per game, and defend on the perimeter pretty well. But I'll gladly eat crow in this one. JJ was a steal at the 19th pick.

I think I was upset at first just because I had never heard of the kid and KK was still on the board. As soon as I read a little about him and and one of our fellow BPers from NC gave him props I figured he wouldn't be a bad pick. When you are picking that far down the draft it's hard to find someone with instant impact and a high upside. I said from the beginning that they needed a big that would be ready to play in around 2 years and I think at that point JJ is going to be very good. The fact that they are getting anything from him in his rookie year is just gravy. He's the main reason that I would rather have them trade for a bigger SG than a big at this point.
Once Z comes back they will be plenty deep at the 4 and 5, but I'd love if they could find someone to take over the starting 2 spot. Too bad Redd is out for the year because he would be perfect. Only problem with him is that he seems to get hurt more than Larry Hughes. Hopefully some crappy teams start liquidating players pretty soon. In a perfect world the Cavs would be able to trade Wally, Pavs, Snow, and Wright for a starting 2 and a good backup 4-5, but I'd settle for the 2.

Opinions... how do you think Bosh would work for us? Seems that could be a realistic move... just not sure how it fits with how the Cavs play and whether he could be as good for us as he could be in a diff system

I think he would fit in well as long as he is willing to do the little things. IIRC he was one of the more impressive guys this summer in the Olympics. The Cavs seem to do a good job of bringing in guys and getting them to buy into the system. A package of JJ, Andy, and Snow's contract could get it done if the Raptors would come to the realization that they have no chance to resign Bosh and they might as well take what they can get for him now. If they could somehow pull off that move I think the Cavs would become the favorite for at least the next 3-4 years as long as they both resign with the Cavs.

If that move worked out then you'd still have Wally's expiring deal to maybe get a good SG... then the Cavs would be REALLY scary

Good news. Z practiced and is looking to come back this week. If he could give anything against the Magic on Thursday it would be a bonus.

Cavs' Ilgauskas back at practice - NBA - Yahoo! Sports
I'd be great for him to be back against the Magic, although I won't be expecting a whole lot. For him to be there just for depth and provide some good defense would be great for the Cavs in that game. Hopefully he does make it back Thursday then his second game back will be at Detroit and he'll have been back for over a week by the time the Lakers come to town. We're definitely going to need him to give us some quality minutes against the Lakers and their bigs.
