Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Pistons get Iverson now, LeBron later?

By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports 41 minutes ago

Joe Dumars had the chance to consider Dallas? Jason Kidd and his expiring contract over the summer, a league executive said Monday, but the Detroit Pistons president had bigger, bolder ideas. Allen Iverson still gives the Pistons a puncher?s chance in the Eastern Conference this season, but this trade isn?t about him. It isn?t about Chauncey Billups.

Think bigger.

Think bolder.

Think LeBron James, 2010.

The Pistons president doesn?t just have the salary cap space for the Cleveland Cavaliers star. He also has the connections and the championship credibility. Make no mistake: Detroit and Dumars are officially in hot pursuit of James ? maybe even the favorite now ? and it promises to be a long, agonizing two years for the Cavaliers.

Pistons get Iverson now, LeBron later? - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

All the stuff about Lebron going to the Nets is bad enough, but it's laughable that he would go to the Pistons. Personally I don't think this move helps them. The only team that I worry about with Lebron is the Nets, but they aren't going to have anything but cap space when the time comes to sign him. The Pistons are an old team that is just going to be older in 2 years.

Mo Williams is having one of the games like Mo Williams can have in the second half tonight. Looks like Pavs has been dropped from the rotation. Mike Brown seems to be coaching this game like he would a playoff game. The bench has consisted of Boobie, Wally, and Andy. I'm liking it.

Wally doesn't seem like such a shitty player when hes coming off the bench.

I've really disliked the moves of Danny Ferry to date, but I'll give him credit for putting together a great bench. And it i sgreat, the Cavs finally have some depth.

Now we just need some additional talent in the starting 5 to have a real shot at the title.

Great game all the way around...

Nice rotation...LBJ seems to be getting his game together, and his legs under him, but he is still a step off at time...

that is what Mo Williams brings to the table and I think that is going to be a huge help to us this year...His ability to hit jumpers off the dribble and catch and shoot...LBJ finally has shooters all around him...No one on the team that can't shoot it, other than Andy and Big Ben, but they are usually the screeners and take care of the offensive boards, and understand to get to the rim if they are being un covered...

Also the defense from this team is very good, very quick, in passing lanes, and we rebound the ball well...

Andy needs lots of love as he has played very well early in the season...

I would still like to see Sasha and Hickson make it more of a 10 man rotation, as there is no reason to waste Z and Big Ben this early in the seaosn and I still like Sasha over Wally...

To start off the season, I hated some of the shots Wally was making.. He's calmed down some and it making the right moves, the dunk had me laughing!

This team is looking great right now, they are finding rhythm on Offense and the D is playing lights out right now. Big Ben didn't put up a single point and I couldn't ask for any more out of him grabbing 13 rebounds. At 2-2, they are sitting pretty well going into this next stretch of home games... When I saw the schedule at first, I was seeing a 1-3 start and tonight's performance shut me up!

Brian Windhorst's Cavaliers Blog: Mo wants more of this

by Brian Windhorst Monday November 03, 2008, 8:09 PM

Cavs 100, Mavericks 81
? As a preface I am required by the NBA beat writer code to say that not every night will be like this, but the contribution that Mo Williams made Monday night is the reason the Cavs have high hopes for the season. He didn't just make four straight shots and hand out two assists to start the fourth quarter, he created the shots and made moves to set up the assists. All with LeBron James on the bench. That is a vital dynamic for the Cavs and the Mavericks were not ready to handle it.
? When LeBron left the game late in the fourth quarter with things in hand, the Cavs were +18 with him on the bench in the game. They were +9 against the Bobcats and +7 against the Hornets. Williams makes an impact on this, but so has Daniel Gibson, Delonte West and much better offensive ball movement. They were so good at times Monday moving the ball from one side of the floor to the other with and without LeBron on the floor, that for a second or two I thought I was watching the Spurs, who are the best in the league and moving the ball without dribbling. Let's see if it continues, but since that Boston game when the ball stopped moving in the second half, the Cavs' movement has been very strong.

Williams, James push Cavaliers to best effort of young season, routing Mavericks

by Brian Windhorst Monday November 03, 2008, 11:12 PM

DALLAS -- Now this is the Mo Williams the Cavaliers got themselves excited about. After not being happy with his performance in the first three games of the season, especially a lackluster fourth quarter in New Orleans, Williams' talents were in full bloom Monday night.
With LeBron James on the bench resting before finishing off his best game of the young season, Williams was dominant in the defining stretch of the Cavs' 100-81 victory over the Mavericks.
In the first six possessions of the fourth quarter, Williams nailed four jumpers, including a 3-pointer, and delivered two assists to lead a 13-0 run that pushed the game out of the Mavericks' (1-2) reach.

"That is what they expect," Williams said. "I've got to get back in the groove and tonight was a great sign."

I guess "Cavs beat once great Mavs by 19 in Dallas" wouldn't go with their Lebron is going to bolt to Detroit or New Jersey story.
If the Cavs are able to make a move for another quality player at the deadline this year this could turn into a great season. Even without any moves this roster could get them to the Finals again if everything comes together. I'm past the bad blood that they've had with Andy. They need to resign him this off season even if they have to overpay a little (not a lot) to do it.

the only issue is that AV and wally's contract are the two best trading chips the cavs have. there is no way a team is going to take on wally's expiring deal without getting something good in return, whether it be AV or Boobie, or even Delonte West.

the Cavs are still dangerously thin in the frontcourt, and don't have a lot of scoring there.

I don't want to see Gibson or West leave Cleveland... They are both good shooters and can play on the defensive side of the ball... AV can go, but his energy is what is so great about him... I love the way this Cavs team looks right now.. They have times where they can play big with Z, AV, or Big Ben on the court (likely 2 of the three), they have times where they go small with Mo Williams, Gibson, Sasha/Wally, one big man, and LBJ out there.. I just like the way this team could potentially gain more experience playing together and potentially be a force..

They've got a first rounder they can add to Wally's contract. The expiring is a BIG chip for alot of teams. Add in a first and the fact that the team is getting rid of a big contract and you have a deal. I'm just not sure who will be available that will fit their needs.

a lot of who is available will depend on what teams tank between now and the trading deadline.
