Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

How happy is everyone with Ben Wallace rather than Hughes now? I still can't believe that the Bulls made that trade just to get rid of Ben. Maybe he's just a better fit in Cleveland. Hope they can take the next step tomorrow against the Hornets.

Just a better fit. In Chicago Ben was the highest paid player and was expected to be its best player. Ben just couldn't handle that pressure. Here in Cleveland his fades into the background and only needs to worry about rebounds and defense.

But back to the Cavs. Brown is still searching for the right rotation. The first basic step was to make sure Mo is out there when LeBron isn't. Now the next thing he has to figure out is the glut of guards we have on this team. Just there are so many options it can almost be done only by trial and error and by who has the hot hand.

In the end it doesn't matter. By playoff time the rotation will be shrunk considerable with probable Williams/West/Gibson getting 95% of the minutes. Or Ferry will use the Wally's contract to get us a bonafide SG or a big to loosen up the amount of guards we have on this team.

I leave West in the starting lineup...Boobie gives us the offensive spark of the bench and just because he doesn't start doesn't mean he can't get a majority of the minutes with LBJ...

When you put all your scorers together you lose a little of what they can do...Boobie did lots of his work last night when LBJ went out of the game and he got to control the ball some...You need a guy like that as your 6th man...

I don't mind West starting as long as they leave him in when Mo comes out. I just didn't like the line up when they took out Mo and West so Boobie and Lebron had to be the ball handlers. The problem is right now Brown is going to keep a deeper bench so either Pavs or Wally will be in there with Boobie when the other two go to the bench.
If they have this roster in the playoffs I would look for Mo to go out first and West to move to PG with Boobie. When Lebron sits West will go out with him and Mo will come back in so you'd have Mo, Boobie, and player to be named with Andy, and JJ.

I just don't see the need to sit LeBron 10-12 minutes a game. Especially for 6 minutes at a time. He's not 30-35 years old. Let him stay in the flow of the game.

The bench actually played decent tonight, but how many games will that substituion pattern cost us this year? It cost us multiple times last year...he goes to the bench on a run, and the team gives back the lead and momentum to never be found again. It's stupid.

I agree that LeBron should only rest for a couple of minutes at a time preferably about 2 in the first, 3-4 in the seccond and 3-4 in the third. This will keep him fresh for the fourth while also keeping him in the rythym of the game.

The Cavs still can't shoot ft's, they bring in Wally and Mo who have been good ft shooters and it seems like it has rubbed off on them too.

I can't wait for Wally to be traded, his offense is sparadic and he is a huge liabilty on defense. We will be able to ge a great player, preferably a PF, for his contract.

I'll take any current #1 on a team (aside from Center) that is willing to play second fiddle to LeBron...that is all he needs.

I am all for cutting LBJ's minutes some this year, but I still think the best way to do so is work your way out to a big lead and sit him the last of the game...

I also think the rest from end of 1st quarter-2 minutes, to say the under 9 timeout in the first half and then maybe 2 or 3 minute rest from end of the 3rd to start of the 4th...

I also think we should play Sasha more than Wally...

I also think that LBJ is just now in mid preseason form, and other guys are ahead of him...

I understand the the reasoning behind giving LBJ more rest this year, but he sat twice last night, twice for 5+ minute stretches, and that is being generous. Then as soon as the other team goes on a run, Mike Brown decides the rest is over and gets him back into the game. It's just a stupid philosophy...get a lead, rest your star for a long stretch, give the lead back, hope your team is better in the least 7-8 minutes in a close game you've been leading throughout.

Yeah I am talking about in terms of the end of the game...with 5 minutes...Get up 15 or so by playing him and then let him rest then...The Cavs have the team to blow people out, but I think that Brown's rotation lets teams back in games too much when we have leads and then we are caught hanging on or coming back...

The Pistons landing Iverson probably makes it a even bigger climb the Cavs will have to make to win the Division

No, it blows up the Pistons. This was a dumb move, Iverson plays no defense and is a ball hog. He will have to play PG unless they shift Prince to the 4 which is not likely. I think they panicked on this one. The Cavs will win the central by at least 4 games after this move.

This helps this year, but the Pistons will have lots of cap room next year...

Also having a player like Iverson is not going to hurt them in terms of scoring, but it could hurt in terms of defense and chemistry...

lets hope we put a good game together tonight...
