Cavs 08-09 Season - Central Div Champs (official thread)

Well Davis is gone...I know some were hoping for him...

Arenas got offered 6 years 125 mill from Washington...Want no part of that...

Also seems that Posey is going to get more money from a team that can offer more...

My only hope right now is that the Warriors fuck up talks with Monta Ellis, and kinda forces the Warriors into a sign and trade...

He would be the player at the top of my wish list, even over Redd, Davis, Arenas...He was probably the warriors best player last year down the stretch...

Probably not going to happen, but you never know...
. If that don't happen it looks like we will be pretty quiet in free agency...
I wouldn't have minded bringing Davis in, but he is getting up there in years and is injury-prone, so it's no biggie in my book. I agree about Ellis. I mentioned him earlier in this thread back after the Celtic series. That kid is a freakish athlete with a ton of potential that he began to tap towards the end of last season. It's definately a longshot, but I'd be ecstatic if the Cavs could work a sign-and-trade for him.

The Cavs better make an offer on Maggette then. Seems like he has stated he wants to go to a championship calibur team. San Antonio & Boston are rumored to be offering their mid-level exemptions for him, we might as well too.

You would think playing next to LeBron would really peek Maggette's interest.

Oh wow. No big names in free agency, I'm already flipping out over LeBron headed to Jay-Z. We still need atleast a minor trade this year, and then next year has the be the biggest free agency year ever for us.

Mid Season trades next year are possible, and thats a route to go if nothing else.

Dispatch

The NBA signing period opens July 9, and with the Cavaliers almost $25 million over the league salary cap of $55.63 million, they likely will concentrate on trades or sign-and-trades, if they make any moves at all. General manager Danny Ferry repeatedly has said how much he likes his team.
Cleveland had yet to re-sign restricted free agent guards Delonte West and Daniel Gibson, but they can match any offers made by other teams even if it means going over the cap.

optimistic post...We weren't that far away this year, and that was with an injury plagued, hold out, slash trade season...

We are going to be older this year at the front line but I think Hickson can help...The only position I really worry about is SG...Wally isn't bad, but he would be better as a role player and a shooter...He struggles to create his own shot which hurts...

our bench is pretty solid with Boobie, Sasha, Wild thing, Hickson, Smith...

If we could find a legit SG we would be in business...Hopefully we can swing a trade, maybe mid-season, and if we do I don't want it to be one of those 4 guys going and 4 coming in...We need to have good chemistry with our team next year...It needs to be a one or two player for one or two players...

Like a Wild Thing, Wally, Snow for a legit SG type deal...

I have been looking for talk of undrafted free agents signing with the Cavs...

The only thing I have found so far is PG Mike Green from Butler...I love the pickup...Really think he has a good chance to stick with the team...He led Butler in pts, assts, and rebounds per game...He is a very smart player, good defender, good pg as well...I think he could be the pg behind West and Boobie...So when Boobie is getting time at the SG he could see time at the point...

Other than that I haven't found anything on anyone else signing with the Cavs are playing in the summer league...

I am going to assume that we will see Hickson, Kahn, Jackson, Green, and maybe Boobie...Not sure after that...

I was really hoping to get Jamant Gordon from Mississippi st as he would also have a good chance to stick at the SG position...but he signed with the 76ers...

We should know in a couple days who is going to be on the team...

I also like the pickup of Green... he was very solid for Butler this year. Also is Kahn playing on the cavs summer league team although he signed with a professional team in Russia?

Not sure if you have to have a contract to play in the summer league...Just have an affiliation with the team...
That would be very risky but I do not know if they have to sign a waiver or something. I don't understand how they could have a contract with one team and even represent another team but the risk factor is the big thing.

What i am getting at are guys that just have the rights to a guy...Like say the Cavs haven't signed Hickson to a contract yet, but they have his rights...

As for an undrafted FA some are trying to play for a contract, so say the Cavs say, we think we might try and sign you to a deal, but we want to see you play in the summer league to see how you stack up for sure...Kinda like a tryout...Maybe they have to give them a summer league contract or something, but don't think so...

ABOUT THE CAVS . . .
Cavaliers court Clippers guard

Sunday, July 06, 2008

Yes, the Cavs want Corey Maggette, the Clippers shooting guard who walked away from a $7 million option. Like Boston, San Antonio and some other teams, the Cavs are offering Maggette a "full level exception" which starts at $5.8 million. The same is true of the other contenders. The one team with lots of salary cap room is Philadelphia, which has as much as $16 million available. The Sixers have been talking to Josh Smith, Atlanta's restricted free agent. But they also could swoop in and grab Maggette, who is unrestricted.
The 6-6 Maggette is in his prime at 28 and yes, this is the same Corey Maggette the Cavs passed over in the 1999 draft, instead picking Maggette's Duke teammate, Trajan Langdon. Maggette averaged 22 points, shot nearly 46 percent from the field and a career-high 38 percent on 3-pointers. He is not a pure shooter, but he is the kind of athlete the Cavs need because he can create his own shot with the 24-second clock ticking down. He gets to the foul line a lot -- nearly 10 times per game last season -- and is a career 82 percent shooter. He could be the type of player the Cavs wanted when they signed Larry Hughes.

..
I was specifically talking about Kahn who has a contract with a Russian professional team. I meant it would be very risky for him to play in the summer league without having some type of "contract/waiver" protection.
