Daniel Gibson's sophomore season was plagued by injuries.
Wish I could report the Cavs being on the verge of a blockbuster trade or free-agent signing, but the only thing that seems likely to happen soon is the signing of restricted free-agent guard Daniel Gibson. Progress is being made, but the deal is not done. Nonetheless, this is good news, especially after ridiculous holdouts last season by restricted free agents Sasha Pavlovic and Anderson Varejao, costing both players all of training camp and perhaps leading to some injuries in the regular season.
Gibson is important to the Cavs because his outside shooting (44 percent on 3-pointers) was fifth best in the NBA last season. He averaged 10.4 points, which was more than either Pavlovic (9.0) or Varejao (6.8) in the season leading up to their contract disputes. Gibson blends well with LeBron James, much like Dru Joyce III did at Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High. The key will be the 6-2, 194-pound Gibson getting strong, because he missed 24 games because of injuries last season.
