Carter Coughlin (LB New York Giants)

Some rumors that the Minnesota insiders aren't as confident as they were as well. Hoping Buckeyes can pull off the surprise recruiting win here.

I actually think this is one of those under-the-radar recruitments that people aren't paying a ton of attention to (due to his lower ranking) that is actually pretty important. Coughlin (along with Ferns) is obviously right at the top of the OSU board for LBers and the reports and video on him are extremely impressive. He is rated pretty similarly to James Laurinaitis and I think he has a good chance to be an impact player wherever he ends up. His combo of instincts and closing speed is special and he should be ranked a lot higher.

@JoeCStrib: Carter Coughlin is at #Gophers practice hugging everyone, smiling. Looks like he will be picking MN over Ohio State and Oregon tonight.
He just arrived at Spring Practice. Looks like this one is a done deal. Best of luck to him.

If B10 logic holds, a few more highly rated recruits and Coach Kill will relinquish any chance to Coach of the Year honors.
He can mitigate any damage landing highly rated players does to his Big Ten coach of the year cred by tanking every other season so he consistently goes from 4-8 to 9-3.

Swinging wildly between good and mediocre is a much more impressive coaching feat than consistent excellence.

More on topic- congratulations to Coughlin, home state school and a place where both his father and grandfather played at- it must be exciting for him to continue that legacy.

Happy for the young man, seems to be a great guy. Also happy for Minnesota and coach Kill. Agree with the above sentiment that if the other schools in our conference can keep the hometown kids on campus it will help the conference. tOSU will be fine, we will have our pick. Important thing now is to lock down our borders in regard to Ferns. September, get here soon please.

This is the kind of recruit that other B1G programs have been letting get away. It's only one player, but it's good that at least one other team in the league is capable of holding on to a sought-after player in their own state.

I always thought these type of kids(high ranked from A state with little talent) would go to an instate school or be scooped up by ND. What has been damaging the B10 is the solid 3star kids that leave B10 country for teams in conferences on the border of the B10(UK, Louisville, Pitt, WVU, etc).
Not surprised by Coughlin ending up at Minny, best of luck to him.. At least he can see the field soon and his family can see him play consistently

Official word from Coughlin RT @Cmoe34: I am very excited to announce my commitment to the University of Minnesota! God is so good!

So much for the dancing bananas.

I never try to second guess or criticize a recruit wanting to "stay home" to play football. I wish him all the best at Minnesota.

Great decision for the young man. I doubt he'll ever regret getting to play from day 1 at his dad's alma mater. And good for the Big Ten for (finally) keeping a homegrown kid away from the SEC and Ohio State.
