Carson Palmer has never been known as a scrambler, but the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback did his best yesterday to elude pressure from angry Ohio State fans. Palmer has been catching some heat during the past few days for remarks he made Thursday in an interview with Los Angeles radio station KLAC. Palmer, a Southern California product, was asked if he had to be careful about what he said about the Sept. 13 Ohio State-USC game because he lives in Ohio part of the year.
Here's his response:
"I don't watch what I say. . . . I cannot stand the Buckeyes, and having to live in Ohio and hear those people talk about their team, it drives me absolutely nuts.

I'm absoutely amazed at the amount of attention this idiot is getting. Who cares what he thinks!!! He's just another average quarterback getting paid astronomical amounts of money. The guy's a clown and will always be a clown.

I knew a comment from the Bengals retracting the statement was going to come sooner or later. You can't alienate a part of you fanbase who buy Bengal tickets and are Ohio State fans (first).

News - Cincinnati Bengals

----

"I'm a Trojan all the way, and I was talking to a Trojan audience in California. I guess I got a little fired up, as all good fans will do. But I really do respect the Buckeyes, and I know their fans are passionate, too. I hope they all understand I'm just looking forward to a big game for my school against a very tough opponent, and that it's all in the good fun of a rivalry. You don't have a real rivalry unless both sides are great teams."

Im about over this

"I don't watch what I say. . . . I cannot stand the Buckeyes, and having to live in Ohio and hear those people talk about their team, it drives me absolutely nuts.
"It's amazing to hear what those guys think about that university and that football program and (coach Jim) Tressel and all the crap I've got to put up with being back there.
"I just can't wait for two years from now (actually 2009) when SC comes to the 'Shoe. Hopefully, we'll have a home game that weekend and I go up there and watch us pound on them on their own turf and put all the talk to rest, because I'm really getting sick of it.
"I just can't wait for this game to get here, so they can come out to the Coliseum and experience L.A. and get an old fashioned Pac-10 butt-whipping and go back to the Big Ten. I can't wait."

now the backpedaling:

"But I really do respect the Buckeyes, and I know their fans are passionate, too."

Where in any of this does an ounce of RESPECT come into play. This guy is a pussy who recieved a phone call from his agent, and the Bengals PR people. The only interest is this is the almighty dollar!

I wouldn't have had a problem with it if he didn't play for an arrogant fanbase such as USC.

I call them arrogant, but I realize that we are as well. We've both earned the right to be. But he has no right complaining about a fanbase similar to the one for whom he played. His comments were unnecessary. He could've said something similar without making it so personal.

I don't buy the retracting statement; what he said first is what he thinks.

I think the part he needed to retract from was when he said he hoped he had the weekend at home when USC came to Buckeye Land next year. The shoe should be one of the last places he wants to visit after pulling some bullshit like that! I declare that all Ohio State fans that attend the Bungals games this year should wear Scarlet and Gray for the entire year!

I also used to be a CP fan, but no longer after his great display of douchebaggery!
