Now taking bids on my daughters' college choices for softball.

Bids start at $50,000k Its ok, as long as the SEC is bidding and the team in a race for the CWS

Exactly.

The NCAA just essentially printed a "cheating for dummies" book. Leave it to the SEC to figure out that if you just pay the parents and people believe the kid is too fucking stupid to know any better you have carte blanche to pay for play at any school that can afford it.

Its so simple no one else ever thought it would work I guess.

That 24 hour suspension thing is so unfair. They should have made it three separate eight hour periods, say, between midnight and eight am each day. :shake:

But I must say, watching the Bammers react to the news makes it all worth it.

Perhaps you missed the length of time it took to investigate the Bush deal with no NCAA subpoena power. It really does not matter what anybody "thinks" happened - at this time. Like it or not, they have little choice in the matter - at this time. I have very little doubt that the future will reveal different evidence, and that the Aubies will get the [censored] hammer pounding that they deserve. But at this time, with what evidence is available and "court room ready", they really do not have a case solid enough to do anything else...so they are trying their best to put a shine on the pig that is the possible Cam and Aubies win the BCS. And they have to be looking at the ratings and $$. But even if they are, they have very few options given the dearth of evidence at this time.

That whole due process thingy can be a bitch when one is pressed for time. Sucks.

O.K. maybe I read it too fast but I thought the synopsis was "we (NCAA) know Cam's dad took money but Cam didn't know anything about it so all is well" ?

Maybe. I read it like this.

+1

Parents asking for money is a violation...a big one. Always has been. If they KNOW this happened, then how can he not miss any games? That is not consitant with other past decisions. What they know at this time is more than enough to suspend the kid. Their hands aren't tied...it's up to them. Are there really any Auburn fans out there that truely believe this is okay?

If this were at Ohio State...how would we feel? What if this was TP, and it was found that TPs dad was asking for money from Rich Rod. How would you feel about that Buckeyes?

From what I've read they only have evidence that Papa Newton asked for money not that he actually took it, at this time (thank you, Gator). I think this is far from over.

Lets say, in the off chance, Cam's dad didn't actually take any money. Simply shopping him around or looking to hand him to the highest bidder is a major violation.

14.01.3.2 Financial Aid.
If at any time before or after matriculation in a member institution a student-athlete or any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference (except such aid or assistance as such student-athlete may receive from those persons on whom the student is naturally or legally dependent for support), such student-athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career.

I interpret that section that an "agreement" has to be made as an essential predicate before it becomes a violation where the dad's conduct inures to the student athlete's detriment (suspension). I do not read that as being violated by an "offer" to an institution when we have no proof that the offer was "agreed to" or consummated by actual receipt.

See why the FBI evidence will be key if/when it is released....in the future. :p

Leave mufflerdragon's wife out of this!

Sorry muffler. I had to do it. Just for the halibut.

I can handle your "tiddly wink" coming over since we're pretty much the same age; however, if you're alluding to my wife pulling an "Anna Nicole... then the shit just got REAL!!! No way is there more virility coming out of a resident Chicagoan than me!

hrrm.....nothing in there about actively seeking aid and extra benefits.....as long as no agreement is made it's quite alright to go out and solicit it.
