Ah.... the old "I only did it one time" excuse.

Bull.
Shit.

You don't find it plausible that someone would try and get paid by MSU but none of the other SEC schools?

You are a cynical and jaded person(s).

Breaking News From Atlanta's WSB: link below - Cecil Admits asking for $$$$

Exclusive: Cam Newton's Dad Admits Money Talks, Says Source
Cecil Newton Stresses Son's Hands Are Clean

Posted: 9:38 pm EST November 12, 2010Updated: 10:06 pm EST November 12, 2010
ATLANTA -- While Auburn University quarterback Cameron Newton has had to overcome
more than tacklers in his well-chronicled, redemptive run to college football stardom,
his dad has been scrambling in recent days to explain his own actions.

A source close to the situation exclusively told Channel 2 Action News investigative reporter
Mark Winne (who attended Auburn University) that the player's father, Cecil Newton, has
admitted having conversations with an ex-Mississippi State University player about the
possibility of under-the-table money if Cam Newton signed to play football at Mississippi
State, though he's steadfastly maintained that no money ever changed hands and said no
official at Mississippi State ever made such an offer.

According to Winne's source, Cecil Newton said his son's hands are clean, and has made it
clear that Cam Newton himself and his mother knew nothing about the money discussions,
nor did Auburn University, with whom the Westlake High School grad from College Park
eventually signed with out of junior college.

Which is the only fall back position he could take given the news about actual taped conversation and NCAA/FBI scrutiny.

And it could be true. The guy sounds like such a fuck up he may have not been able to get any money. If he did not, that explains Aubies "All-in" strategy on this so far. If there was cash paid I'd think there would be somebody given up as a patsy by Auburn by now to stem lack of institutional control charges, given there is no way Auburn can go with a lack of knowledge prior to Saturday's game.

Then again, it may just be the collection of idiots that is Auburn setting itself up for penalties of Homeric proportions

Just to make sure I am up to speed, Mr. Newton is now saying that something he previously said did not happen, in fact happened.

However, other things he previously said did not happen still did not happen. So there is no reason for concern.

Just over at the Auburn board and it reads PRECISELY like the USC boards from a year or two ago.

The problem is there is something hidden under pretty much every rock in CFB these days. Once the NCAA starts flipping rocks you are screwed. And the more the media turns up the heat the more rocks get flipped.

There is no reason to think he did not receive $$$. I just have more faith in his ability to FAIL than others might.

Here is the thing: with the FBI involved you have Justice Dept subpoena power - power that the NCAA lacks. Add the odd attention seeking state attorney general, and you have the power to do the dirty work that the NCAA is toothless to do sans help from a civil or criminal action.

[Gatorubet] I'd like to point out that this quote indicates that the Newtons didn't get money when Cam committed to Florida. [/Gatorubet]

Not so fast there, impersonating Gator breath.

Just because he said, "it's not gonna be free this time", don't mean it was free last time!

Where the world hopes this does not go: Newton Sr confesses to asking but claims to never receive money. Payment for the renovations to the church take center stage. Cam Newton positioned as an unknowing victim of a father desperate to save the world for God with the only tool at his disposal. Reggie Bush. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Not going to speculate on anything because we have no idea of the facts. I will say it is unfortunate that Cam has such shitty people around him to set an example. Sad that many kids who make a little name for themselves get all kinds of leaches on them from family and friends.

I personally think Auburn needs to sit Cam to show "respect" to the investigation and try to clean any ties to the situation they can. If they are totally confident that no violations occurred on their end and this was a rouge booster then who knows.

Isn't the fact that they asked for money a violation rendering Cam not eligible to play?

Yes, it is a violation. Cam can no longer play for Mississippi State.

Actually, I don't know what the punishment is when the school allegedly did nothing but hear a guy ask for benefits, said "no" and then reported the information to the SEC and NCAA. In other words, Cecil Newton committed the violation here, not MSU, so what can the NCAA do about it? They could sit Cam, I guess, but then - he's not at the school his representatives are alleged to have improperly asked for money from - and why punish Auburn for that? I do know that Cecil's "Cam didn't know about it, his hands are clean" bullshit is meaningless. It doesn't matter what Cam knows about it. It may in the court of public opinion, but that's it.
