Cam Newton (QB New England Patriots)

Impressive stats, albeit against a team that at the end of the season will likely have one of the worst passing defenses in the league.

That said, his decision-making could use some work--when you've got 4th and 6 with the game on the line, a 4 yard pass isn't exactly the right decision.

I don't care how crappy the competition is, 400+ yards is mighty impressive.
Agreed. I don't think anyone is ready to crown him, but this is the NFL you're talking about and he threw for 400 yards. Did he make some poor decisions as well...yup, but he made some good ones too.

I have no idea how his next game will turn out, but it's hard to knock this first one too much.

Let's see how well he does against the defending champs this coming week. Anybody can put up points against a team that traditionally has one of the worst defenses in the league...

The one thing that irritated me in watching him? He didn't spit that damn gum out of his mouth. Seems pretty arrogant to me. When he's missing some teeth I'll be he puts a mouthpiece in.

Newton was great on first reads. When his first read isn't available, he is a huge liability.
I could say the same for Joe Flacco.

I have been among Newton's largest critics, mainly because I can't stand the way he has been hyped up as the end all be all while TP has been looked at as a "Definite switch to WR" despite them being very similar. I understand that Cam has nothing to do with that but I just can't help myself from hating him and critiquing the [Mark May] out of him. With that said, I picked him up in my fantasy league today off waivers. 422 is pretty unreal for a rookie. I don't care if you're playing Akron, that's an impressive number and I'll give him credit for that.
