Well, my dad has finally agreed to give DirecTV a try, and tomorrow is the day the guy comes out to explain to him how he will install it and stuff...He's still sketchy on the process of it, but we'll see, hopefully he goes through it, I want my BTN!

now the doofus (my dad) has to call them to change packages cause he got the wrong damn one :shake:

I have had Directv since 2010 and I love it. Plus I think you can change packages right from your pc.

Weird, I've had DirecTV for just about a decade and only seem to lose it only during the heaviest downpours....and even then I don't lose it every time...

Same as Mike80 for me...I only lose signal when it rains hard, and I'm on the fringe of the satellite footprint (which is why I have to have two dishes).

I'll lose it during heavy rain or severe thunder. I remember bringing that up to the cute little thing trying to sell me on DTV and she told me they only had 4 minutes of national downtime last year. Of course that meant only 4 minutes where EVERYBODY was down at once. My brain heard "tits tits tits tits tits only 4 minutes tits tits tits tits tits".

Same here. With directv I lose the signal for 2-10 min a few times a year. Meanwhile with time warner Cable it is breaking down constantly, between the cable signal becoming too weak for proper tv or Internet, requiring a fix a few times a year (both by phone a d k person)

Then there is the matter of their atrocious boxes. They are always freezing, breaking down, needing to be replaced by similarly flaky ones. Directv on the other hand has pretty good set top boxes.

It also matters how strong your signal is, as well as what "storm" means in your area. We don't get the wicked t storms that Florida gets (at least not often).

So as mentioned elsewhere, we sold our house and are in a condo while we build. The only company that provides high speed internet and HD video is Comcast.

Suffice it to say, my experience with them thus far leaves a lot to be desired. Worst customer experience I've had with any company hands down, anywhere, anytime, ever.

I miss DTV and ATT. I can't say that I ever really thought I'd say that...

This is old news now, but for those that missed it, here are the horrors of quitting Comcast
If you've been anywhere even remotely near the internet over the past couple of days, you're probably familiar with Ryan Block's now-legendary attempt to quit Comcast. And while it's hilarious and awful and mind-numbing all the same time, there's far more to the story.
1) Listen to the audio file via Ryan Block link above

2) Read the horror stories in that article's comments, especially shoegirl's troubling defense of this CSR and the ugly depiction of that workplace

3) watch the YouTube videos satirizing Comcast, especially the white background one. Just not at work.

Been there with Comcast. I can fully relate to the situation. I am with ATT right now. Not as great of Internet speed but no hassles either.

I dropped DTV in favor of Roku and my antenna (CBS, ABS, PBS only) for the summer. DTV has turned into the psycho ex who let's you do weird sex stuff to her trying to get you back. Their latest offer is 29.99 for two years plus a $200 prepaid Visa.

Never had comcast, but was bad trying to cancel with Time Warner..

I was moving from Ohio back to Florida (was at OSU) canceled

went something like

"why do you want to cancel?"

Because I'm finished with school and moving back home

"do you want TW installed at your new place?"

No

"why not"

Because they don't offer it where I'm moving, just have Cox in my area

"would you like me to see where I can get TW for you?"

 no,

A girl I used to date worked in a call center very similar. I can speak on how impossible it is too maintain some of Their metrics.

The big ones I know about are first call resolution, cost per account/policy/call or call length. Then cross selling, Basically some one who isn't hired to sell products, you just offer them. Here's the catch, even if you make the offer it's negative reflection on your file if the customer doesn't at least get a quote. Obviously something you have no control over, but it doesn't matter.

That's why these people seem so robotic and out of touch and down right pushy. These damn companies basically consider you and their own employees as numbers. It's not customer centric, it's bottom line centric. It effects your workers that must become these zealots which in turn effects customers. Sad, Very sad.
