does anyone know if you can get someone from directv to come out and see how they would install it or make sure we have the right kind of cables already running? It seems this is the only thing that's holding my dad back

You schedule the install and they come do the assessment. In rare occassions they can't complete the install and you move on.

but after they do the assessment can you tell them forget it without getting charged anything?

Like if they wanted to run wires every where are end up charging some stupid install fee?

Yes. If there is an additional charge, you can deny it.

Any of you with XFinity that is able to watch live TV on your computer or IPAD? They advertise that you can do this, especially showing sports, but I don't see where it actually works.

On my laptop, I get some options to watch episodes that are not the current live episode. On the IPAD I just got it seems to be more like Netflix with very limited options for what you can watch and nothing live. The IPAD forces you to use a specific app. I can record things on the TV from either, but can't watch them on either from the DVR.

Very disappointed in what seems to be false advertising. Maybe I am just missing something?

I believe they would if you don't have the correct cables

Nope. They ran all the cable for my house without charge, even though I had the cable that was installed when the house was built. The cost of a couple hundred feet of cable is next to nothing and the labor needed to do all the installtion will be recouped by DirecTV with your first bill payment. Even after giving you the DVR, they'll be making pure profit from you after a couple months.

Sorry mili, but they often try to charge Beyond fifty feet. I told them they could cancel the job or cancel the fee.

Must be a very recent change then. They've never charged me for any work, neither when they initially wired my house nor the two times they came out to replace my DVR (the first time they replaced the DVR they also replaced filters and some other stuff at no charge). One cable run from the splitter to the drop in the back upstairs bedroom has to be at least 75 feet...

By the way, did they cancel the cable-run fee?

yea, they don't say anything much..just, oh we can help you order it now

Tell the phone rep your circumstances and have him/her commit to no installation fees regardless of the amount of cabling, and get his/her name once he/she does. Trust me, they want to get you as a customer, especially if you end up getting any sports packages.
