Mark it DirectTV, Dude.

Don't, however, get Dish. They're shedding all kinds of good networks (AMC and BTN) in money plays. Either they're in money trouble or they're working they're playing games with their books in anticipation of selling.
Everybody that I know that got Dish instead of DirectTV regrets it. I dropped everything and never been happier. My TV hasn't been turned on once all summer.

Sports is the respirator keeping TV providers alive.

With a BTN & ESPN a la carte option through the web or console, a lot of us would join you in cutting the cord.

Funny that is precisely why I prefer DirecTV, in Ohio anyway. It infrequently goes out for a minute or two.

In dublin oh, Time Warner cable dropped more often and would be out for long stretches,,not just a few minutes.

Yes, remember well the issues I had when I lived in Columbus. Time Warner was bad.

We have Xfinity down here. Very stable, and internet speeds/uptime are great. With the amount of flash tropical thunderstorms you get down here during football season, satellite can go out for 10-20 mins at a time. That really sucks when watching a game.

If I could get Live sports online, or on xbox guaranteed, I'd drop cable in a heartbeat.

We're going to be shopping around now...I've had it with U-Verse. 6 boxes, with numerous outages (a few multiple days) in just about a year of service...I'm sick of paying $125 for the cheapest internet, and HD TV. What a rip off.

They say wow is coming to Picktown, and they dug up the yards in the neighborhood back in March...but they haven't activated the lines yet WTF? :(

Another in for DTV. Not hardly a single reception issue since we went to the HD (oval) dish a few years ago. I'd say if we miss two minutes of programming in any month that's on the high side. The last storm that caused reception issues for us uprooted 100 year old trees down the road. We lost reception for 15 minutes.

Everyone hates their mobile phone carriers and their cable / satalite providers except DTV customers. That should tell you something.

It was an act of difiance. I was channel surfing one day and was flipping past shows like Storage Wars and Jersey Shore and thought "I'm paying nearly $1,200 a year for this crap". It's been over a year now. I still get monthly letters from them begging me to come back.

On the equipment side, I strongly suggest people invest in a power line filter/surge protector.
A surge protector will help protect your investment from "spikes".
A filter will make your picture even better looking! Your power is "dirty" with RFI and interference from radio/church PA and other things. This could cost you a couple $$hundred but is worth it long term. I am thrilled with the results. No going back.

So, I'm doing my yearly push of trying to convince my dad to drop Cox Cable and get DirecTV mostly so we can finally watch the BTN down here in Florida...for people who have DirecTV, how is it? How much are you paying a month and what package do you have?

I also want Sunday ticket and like that the first year is free
Sunday Ticket has an online/PS3 only option this year.

The only people losing DTV are still using old dishes. Since my folks switched to the 2 channel DVR style dish, it's pretty rare. I have the same experience.

They also switched to dish and like it. If you have HD (I don't, my father buys a tv and I get his old one) it's worth looking into. My DTV is part of a bundle, but it goes for around 70 a month, I don't get any movie channels or anything spectacular.

Arrived back from Canada/Seattle near midnight Thursday to find all the digital clocks in the house blinking, indicating there had been a power outage while I was away. I had powered down most other stuff since I was going to be away for 10 days, but left the DirecTV DVR on to record the HBO documentary The Game. Sure as shit, the DVR hard drive got fucked (lost the first four episodes of the ESPNU series I had DVR'd and the Wisconsin game I had saved). DirecTV came out on short notice Friday to give me a replacement DVR at no cost and I was able to record yesterday's game. This is the second time they've replace my DVR for free in the last year or so (the first time was because my previous was pretty old already). You can't beat that...

We were in the eye wall of a freaking hurricane for a few hour Tuesday night/wednesday morning.
Never lost signal from DirecTV.

Anyone with cable in my neighborhood still has no service as of a few hours ago.

So we stayed well informed about what the storm was doing at all times.
People with cable were texting me for updates.

That's reason enough for me to never switch back to cable.

Fuck Dtv. That shit went out at the slightest wind or rain. I was in Kentucky then. The main reason I dropped them is because I move too damn much and rent. Those fuckers won't take the shit down and if a landlord gives me the finger then I still have to pay. I have only yelled and cursed at two customer service reps. I hope I find the prick who told that it sucks to be me but I still have to pay. He is probably a PedSU fan. Plus they use AT&T internet. Worst company around.

Been a DTV subscriber for almost 5 years now. My bill has gone up exactly once - and that's when I switched packages. Other than that, I've had more problems out of my phone and internet (Centurylink bastards) than I have DTV.
