2023 CA DE Matayo Uiagalelei (Oregon Signee)

Looks like a run of predictions for Oregon.
Pretty much puts a bow on the worst recruiting month in OSU history.

We need to get our crap together quickly for next year.

If Day had any leverage he should walk into Genes office and tell him he is gone unless we level the playing field.

Dude, how do you function in life with this "the sky is falling" attitude everyday? It's going to be ok. Find another hobby if this upsets you so much.

Not just Diddy, but the negativity across the entire board is becoming unbearable. It's not enjoyable coming here anymore. Might be time to just check out until next spring. Everybody have a good holiday.
It's literally every OSU message board. The Game loss in 2 consecutive years has broken the spirit of a chunk of the fanbase. And no rationalization will walk them off of the ledge unless OSU wins the NC, and even then I think they'll still feel negative about recruiting. Diddy is just BP's version of what is ALL OVER the Rivals, Buckeyehuddle and Bucknuts boards

But go ahead and donate that money for a building (that was built by the football team) name instead.

Beyond frustrated obviously. So I'll take my own advice and tap out here.
I know it will come as a shock to some but people donate for a variety of reasons and some of those reasons have everything to do with education and nothing to do with football. And contrary to popular belief the money brought in by the football team does not support the entire university, only the athletic department.
Last time I checked we are still (sort of) a free country. You can spend your money and give your money (except what the government demands you give them) any way you want it. People who want to give it to fund frivolous things such as education and ignore the important things in life such as football should be allowed to if they choose to be wasteful.

Counterpoint: the football program and it's prestige does fuel money for other programs. So if the team does well, it helps with other athletic teams, such as OSU's olympic training program. It also creates goodwill for it's educational endeavors.

We all know there is plenty of money to be made by tOSU athletes - in particular football players - should they choose to come to tOSU and have success. That said, I personally do not think tOSU should adjust their NIL philosophy to match other schools. I just don't believe that getting into the practice of buying high school kids with a huge down payment before they ever step foot on campus is the correct way to go about it. If that means we miss out on a couple of recruits we may have otherwise gotten, so be it.

Winning breeds entitlement and over the past 30+ years, there has been a very large amount of winning in Columbus. As a result, there is now an overabundance of entitlement within this fanbase. Few things in life are as ugly as seeing someone not get something they believe they are entitled to......

These are sports message boards dedicated to a very successful team that is hitting a rough patch. People are going to bitch about the things that aren't going well. Then more people pile in and bitch about the bitching.

It's nothing new and it isn't unique to OSU.

yeah, but there is something to the "entitlement" argument. This fan base is unbearable at times. I understand the expectations are extremely high every year, but NC's don't grow on trees, and 11 and 12 win seasons are nothing to sneeze about. I am determined our fans are miserable unless there is a championship trophy hoisted at the end of every season.

Sure, I get upset when they underperform, but when I see all the Academic All-Americans, the things these kids are doing in their communities, and the success they are having once they leave OSU, it makes you realize the culture within the walls at the Woody is just fine .... and whether they finish #1, #3, or #7 in an arbitrary recruiting rankings poll (which there are like 5 of them that all differ), I don't think OSU is ever going to be in a place where they lose 25 kids to the portal in a specific cycle, or have the need to bring in 10 additional from the transfer portal in a given cycle to fill positions of need.

The sky is not falling and we'll be having this same conversation again next year when they are 1 or 2 wins away from winning a championship.

It would be awesome if they could land Matayo though.

"Yeah I understand BUT here is why they are wrong" statements don't really help anything. You don't really understand or approve of what they are saying, you want to continue to list out reasons why they shouldn't have that opinion in the hope that they change. Everyone does it from time to time but it's pointless.

this is where I am. the whole convo is pointless

buckeye nation is not a monolith. some people are going to be highly vocal / reactive to every development. some people aren’t.

but the one thing we all rally around is moments of glory (scUM wins, big OOC wins, playoff wins, NCs).

And the problem right now is we do not have enough moments of glory vs our expectation, basically since we won the title in Jan ‘15.

that title wasn’t the inflection point we thought it was going to be. that’s where the frustration is
