VIDEO: Nick Mangold gets his chest waxed on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'

The New York Jets are chock-full of crazy hijinks that are almost always blog-worthy. Many of these shenanigans are often annoying and ridiculous. But the latest one, in which Jets center Nick Mangold gets his chest waxed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, is just, well, awesome.

Mangold appeared on the segment "Wax On, Wax Off," which is basically like "Celebrity Jeopardy" but with more hot wax and less angry Sean Connery. Or something.

The guy "from the audience" who was "randomly chosen" to answer questions for Mangold "turned out to be" a New York Giants fan, and since most of the categories involved Lithuanian Prime Ministers, Mangold was basically hosed from the start. On the bright side, he's like a reverse Austin Powers, so it looked a lot less painful than it could've been.

If you only have time to watch one of the videos, check out the second segment, when the audience contestant narrowly misses getting a "Sports" or "N.Y. Jets" trivia question and Mangold eventually gets his nipple waxed.

On if he was one of the guys in the locker room last week chanting ?Tebow Time?:

?No. I was actually pushing for Tim and Lolo Jones to get united. My message kind of got lost in the ?Tebow Time? chanting.?

On if Tim Tebow and Lolo Jones will get united:

?I don?t know. This is now my new goal, this is how I?m going to spend my spring. Usually I try to do a little golfing but that isn?t going so well. Now it?s matchmaking.?

On if he buys the belief that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez can?t handle Tim Tebow being on the same team:

On if he is going to take time off to travel to London to watch his sister, Holley, compete in the Olympics in weightlifting:

?God bless Rex because he did offer it to me, but I don?t think I can leave my guys in the middle of training camp. But we?ll figure out a way to watch and I?m real excited and real proud for her. Somehow, some way I?ll watch it, but I don?t know if I can do the jump over the pond in the middle of training camp.?

On if he can lift 319 pounds in the clean-and-jerk like his sister:

?I have no idea. I know I can lift more than her and will tell her that at any time. But I don?t think I?ve ever done a clean-and-jerk. As far as she knows, I can always outlift her.?

On who has softer hands ? Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow:

?That?s a tough call. They both seem to moisturize pretty well and take good care of themselves. I think we?ll really find out come the nitty and gritty of training camp when there is not a lot of time to really put in for personal hygiene and whatnot and see what they?re doing.?

Nick Mangold proud of sister's Olympian efforts

Holley Mangold is accustomed to making headlines. She was the only girl on her high school football team in Ohio -- maybe not that big of a surprise since she's the sister of New York Jets center Nick Mangold.

She's not a novelty anymore. She's an Olympian. Mangold will compete as a superheavyweight in weightlifting at the London Games later this month. Her coaches initially saw her as a prospect for the 2016 Olympics but her progress the past year -- she upped her lift totals by more than 70 pounds -- put her ahead of schedule.

Nick Mangold couldn't be prouder.

"As an older brother, you love to see your siblings do great things and this is something she tried to do and was successful at it and it's a great thing to see," he said. "There are people who have been training their whole lives for this opportunity and she's been doing it for two years."

Mangold is comfortable with her size (about 350 pounds), and would like to help reshape the image of female weightlifters.

"I feel like women weightlifters try to be too feminine just to show that they're still feminine," she said. "I don't do that. I try to have a nice balance. But I haven't really had any problems. People usually don't say anything to your face because they're intimidated that you can out lift them."

Rex Report: Mangold, go to Olympics!

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Rex Ryan hasn't given up on trying to get Nick Mangold to change his mind.

The Pro Bowl center's sister, Holley Mangold, is competing for Olympic weightlifting gold in London this summer, and Ryan gave permission for Nick to attend. But he has said he feels his place is in Cortland for the Jets' training camp.

So has Ryan made any recent headway with Mangold?

"I think so, but we're not there yet," Ryan said. "But I'm laying a guilt trip on him and everything else. And you know what? His teammates understand."

Nick Mangold will go to Olympics to see his sister, after all

In the end, Nick Mangold won't have to watch his sister on television. In the end, Rex Ryan's guilt trip worked. New York Jets center Nick Mangold is heading off to London to see his sister Holley try to won a gold medal in the women's heavyweight weightlifting competition. The news, courtesy of CBS and confirmed by Mangold on his own Twitter account, comes after the center insisted for months that his priority was going to be Jets training camp, and not the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see his sister potentially win a priceless award.

That competition will take place on Sunday afternoon, though NBC might not actually show it until after the Jets' first preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday, August 10. You just never know.

Nick Mangold proud of sister Holley

LONDON -- More than a dozen members of Holley Mangold's family watched her finish 10th in weightlifting at the London Olympics on Sunday. Perhaps none were as proud as her brother Nick, star center for the New York Jets.

"The fact that she has only been doing this for a handful of years and here she is on a world stage at the Olympics competing -- I think that's fantastic," said Nick Mangold, who left training camp to see his sister compete.

"She has the world in front of her. If she continues with it, I think she can do some great things," he said.

He joined his parents, two sisters and nine other members of their family in the crowd at the ExCeL arena in London. He will fly back to the United States on Monday morning.

The 22-year-old Holley Mangold didn't have a perfect competition. She hurt her right wrist in the snatch portion and came out for the clean and jerk portion wearing a bandage. Then the back of her uniform ripped.

She lifted 105 kilograms in the snatch and 135 kilograms in the clean and jerk for a total of 240 kilograms. That's just over 529 pounds -- and still 30 pounds below her personal best.

She said she fought through pain and was proud because she had not lifted more than 80 kilograms in the past two or three weeks.

"About two days before I left for London, I tore a tendon in my hand catching the clean wrong, and I think I retore it again today," she said.

She said she only found out her brother was coming to watch her when he posted the news on Twitter.

"He's a very supportive brother," she said. "I can turn to him when I need him, and it's great having him here."

Nick Mangold said whether to come to London was a difficult decision "because I didn't want to leave my team, but once the guys pushed me into it and said they didn't mind me going I decided to come."

Their mother, Therese, said it was "incredible" to see Holley at the Olympics, and even better that her son could make it, too. She said she understood the pressure he was under as a Jet.

"My son went to the Pro Bowl this year, and my daughter is at the Olympics I couldn't ask for anything more than that."

Mangold returns

Center Nick Mangold has returned from his whirlwind tour of London and practiced Wednesday for the first time since Friday. Mangold flew to London early Saturday to see his younger sister, Holley, compete in the Olympic women?s weightlifting competition. She finished 10th in the super heavyweight division, beset by a torn tendon in her right wrist suffered before she left for London.

Mangold had refused to go until finally being convinced by coach Rex Ryan and his teammates.

"I?m very proud of her," Mangold said, adding, "There was never a desire not to go. I wanted to go, but I didn?t want to leave my teammates. ? Rex can tell me it?s OK to go, but if all 80 guys [his teammates] are staring at me with disgust, that?s not a good thing. I wanted to clarify with them first."

He?s glad he changed his mind.

"It was fantastic, it was a great experience," Mangold said. "She fought through injuries. She finished 10th in the world, [and you] can?t be mad at that. Now it?s good to be back."

I joined Twitter for the interactions. I liked the idea of relating to many different people on a one-on-one basis quickly, and yet at my own pace. I can respond in the moment, or not if something more important comes up. That's neat, so different from when someone asks you a question face-to-face and you have to answer right now. Twitter kind of gives you a bit of a buffer.

Vince Wilfork calls Nick Mangold ?probably best center? in NFL 10.18.12

FOXBORO ? The newfound trend of throwing rose petals in feel-good Patriots-Jets rivalry continued Thursday as Patriots All-Pro nose tackle Vince Wilfork called perennial Jets Pro Bowl center Nick Mangold the best in the game.

?He?s probably the best, probably the best center, I believe,? Wilfork said of Mangold, a three-time All-Pro. ?I?ve been saying this ever since the guy?s been a rookie. He?s been pretty steady for them. And it hasn?t changed.?

Not only is the 28-year-old Mangold a force as part of the protection scheme for Jets, Wilfork reminded everyone Thursday of just how much of New York?s offense goes through the center, who is in his seventh season out of Ohio State.

?Everything it seems like goes through him: the run game, he calls the plays on the line slides, he?s the guy in charge,? Wilfork said. ?That?s how it should be, because that?s their bread and butter. When they need a play, if they?re running the ball, it always seems to end up behind 74 [Mangold's number]. He?s a big-time player for them, I give him all the respect in the world facing him numerous times.?

Mangold did not practice again on Thursday as he is nursing an ankle injury. Wilfork wouldn?t mind if he didn?t play Sunday but he fully expects Mangold to be snapping the ball to Mark Sanchez.

?That?s one of the guys, I?m sure he?ll be ready to go, no matter what is being said or what his injury may be,? Wilfork said. ?Trust me, I?m pretty sure he?ll be there.?

To Wilfork?s point, Mangold missed two games last year with an ankle injury but returned just in time for Wilfork and the Patriots on Oct. 9, a game won by New England, 30-21.

?Trust me, I don?t mind,? Wilfork said. ?I think everybody will be pretty healthy for this game. You don?t want to miss these types of games. If I was on the same side or on the opposite side of this man, I would want to play. Division game, for the lead in the division, there?s a lot riding on this game on both sides. If you?re healthy enough to play, you have to expect everyone.

?He?s one the players that you wish you could have a guy like that, 11 guys like that on the field with you at all times because he just means so much to that team.?

NY Jets center Nick Mangold learns from last year: placing blame in locker room doesn't help team win on field

Offensive lineman Nick Mangold doesn't want to fall into the blame game in the locker room like last year.

With the offense in disarray, the Jets are insisting they won?t fall into the blame game that caused such problems in the locker room and on the field last season.

?I think we learned last year that pointing fingers and being disgruntled doesn?t help anybody,? said center Nick Mangold.

Last season, issues between Santonio Holmes and Mark Sanchez came to a head during the Jets? final game against Miami. Shortly after the season ended, teammates questioned Sanchez' practice habits and whether he could be a franchise quarterback in a Daily News story.

Mangold and nose tackle Sione Po?uha said they were committed to making sure the team didn?t make those same mistakes.

?It just comes down to each and every one of us,? said Po?uha. ?Everybody just takes it upon themselves to say, hey, ?which part of the load do I carry???

?We all understand that it comes down to execution,? added Mangold. ?I think we understand that and having that in our minds will keep the finger pointing?away from our locker room."
