C Kaleb "Bully" Wesson ('18 All B1G Freshman, '19 Honorable Mention All B1G, '20 2nd Team All B1G)

i'd probably lose, but if i'm forced to make a bet, i'm going with kaleb returning. especially in light of his brother missing out, the tournament cancellation might be the catalyst. don't think i'd have this foolish optimism if next year's team with kaleb didn't look so promising. if kaleb returns, we're looking at a top 6ish team heading into the season.
i'm still taking that bet.

Wow.

Don’t even joke around man.

If he does, what’s your best guess on pre-season ranking?
top 5... but that's without knowing how the other rosters shake out. still, osu would be on the short-list of title contenders -- not that preseason rankings carry any ultimate importance. carton is a loss, but we finished strong without him, and we'd be bolstered by ample scoring at the wing, which we missed last year. i see a team that can score against anybody and defend anybody. on paper, we'd be really freakin' good if the offseason is productive.

I rarely if ever disagree with your forecast but with this one I think I am going to have to and say that Wesson will leave be it for the NBA or Europe but there were some things that were said at the beginning of the season by Holtmann and Wesson that just makes me think he will not be here next year I just hope that he makes his decision fairly rapidly so we can get a good grad transfer in here to take his place

If Kaleb leaves (and he was going to, but covid has him rethinking a little), I would hope that the staff would use the last spot on a guard with eligibility for the following season when CJ's gone. None of the grad transfer bigs we have kicked tires on are gonna move the dial, they will just cluster up the frontcourt even more.

14. KALEB WESSON, MEN’S BASKETBALL
After losing more than 30 pounds in the offseason, Wesson showed off a more complete game in 2019-20, leading the Buckeyes with 14 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game while making a team-high 42.5 percent of his 3-point shots. He also had a team-high 31 blocks and ranked second on the team with 60 assists.

Wesson made the USBWA All-District team, earned second-team All-Big Ten honors and led the Buckeyes to a 21-10 regular-season record. Now, he has a decision to make on whether to return to Ohio State for his senior season or enter the 2020 NBA draft, for which he is projected as a potential second-round pick.

Kaleb Wesson will explore NBA draft but isn’t ruling out return to Ohio State

The junior center is facing complications surrounding workouts and interviews and maybe even the draft itself, all caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

...

Keith Wesson, Kaleb’s father, told The Dispatch on Tuesday that all of the unknowns are making it difficult for the family to get a real read on what the future could hold.

“He’ll definitely test the waters, but he’s going to maintain his eligibility based upon information because it’s just so unknown,” Keith Wesson said. “There may not be any opportunities to increase your value from the standpoint of workouts and combines and really solidify your position.”

...

But his shortened season is all on video, and it has moved him into the second round of most NBA mock drafts. But the ability to show his game in NBA workouts might not be available this year, preventing him from solidifying his stock in the draft.

“Oh, yeah, it definitely increases the chances of coming back,” Keith Wesson said. “Nobody knows anything. We’ve talked to several different agents through the process of interviewing and literally none of them know anything. They say the draft is going to be moved back. They don’t know when or if combines or workouts are going to happen or even if the combine will happen.”

continued...

I hope that Kaleb proves me wrong, but I do not see him as an NBA player. I don't think he will be drafted. A lot of mock drafts severely underestimate the amount of foreigners that are selected in the second round, particularly the late second. NBA teams know once you get past the first 35 or 40 picks, generally you draft lottery ticket prospects and not guys like Kaleb that are proven commodities without a ton of upside. That 45-60 range might be where he rates based on skill and productivity, but teams generally don't draft in those spots with "best available" in mind.

With that said, he needs to decide fundamentally if he feels like it is time for him to start his pro career. I think he will have a great career overseas, and he probably should leave school now to pursue that career. If the virus wasn't throwing a wrench in everything, he would already be gone.
