C Greg Oden (All B1G, All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, Butler Assistant Coach)

#2 Greg Oden | 7-0 center, Ohio State

14.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 4.0 bpg

A right wrist injury has prevented Oden from taking the nation by storm, but he's still dominating enough to hold on to his spot as the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. After missing the Buckeyes' first seven games, Oden returned wearing a black wrist brace and shooting free-throws left-handed -- making a surprising 59.7 percent.

I'm going to laugh when Oden decides to stay in school for another year....

Maybe he will and maybe he won't, but everyone nationally seems to expect him to declare tomorrow it seems....

It is annoying how many people write it as a fact that he's going to declare this year. There's a good chance he will but there's just as good of a chance he won't. They're just setting themselves up for egg on the face.

If he was playing for another school, would you be saying the same thing?

From all the things I've heard and read, YES! If he didn't have Mike Conley with him then I think he'd probably leave though. Maybe you misread my post but I said there is a good chance he'll leave after this year just that there's also a good chance he'll stay. He said himself he could see himself staying for another couple years. I doubt he will but he's given these writers/analysts absolutely no indication that he's guaranteed to be one and done.

BEST BIG MAN SINCE SHAQ

All his dunks blew me away but, the one when, he had his back to the rim down low and he did a spin move on a smaller player with a powerful dunk. That floored me. That move showed me that he has his leg movement back already because, thats a great move but,
very tough to do anywhere on a player. He has really fast feet for a big man.

IMO whenever you have a player of Oden's stature it is wishful thinking that he comes back. I know he has said all the right things at times, but when he has those dollar signs staring him in the face and they are telling him no question that he will be the #1 draft pick there is a very high percent chance that he will make the leap...

Dropping some dimes

Will Oden stay or go? A grand opener and much more

The 'Bag has never been much of a news-breaker in this space, but we actually picked up a couple of juicy nuggets in recent days:
? We perked up when we learned that Mike Conley Sr., the father of Ohio State's Mike Conley Jr. and Greg Oden's adviser, former summer coach and, many believe, his future agent, met last week with officials from the Wasserman Media Group -- one of the new movers and shakers in the agent biz. (WMG purchased superagent Arn Tellem's company last year.)
When I spoke with Conley Sr. on Wednesday morning, he said "basketball came up" in the meeting, but added that the main focus was on future events connected to track and field. (Conley Sr., an Olympic gold medallist in the triple jump, is a director with USA Track & Field and World Sport Chicago, which is seeking to put together a Chicago bid for the 2016 Olympics.)
Conley said he hasn't signed on to work for, or with, WMG yet ("I'm going to wait to decide what to do.") and cautioned his meeting with WMG shouldn't be taken as a sign Oden will be turning pro sooner rather than later. "I haven't had any conversations about that with Greg at all, and I know that he and [Buckeyes coach Thad Matta] haven't either," Conley said. "Greg's going to decide what's best for him after the season. To this point he hasn't given me any indication the he's leaning in a certain direction."
Keep an eye on this story: While just about everyone I've spoken to in the NBA and agent ranks thinks superfrosh Kevin Durant of Texas is turning pro after the season, there's less certainty about Oden, who likes college and hasn't played at 100 percent yet due to his still-healing right wrist.

Interesting....

In the pre-game warmups yesterday, Greg spent a lot of time on right-handed jump hooks from the block, on each side of the basket. I didn't see it in the game, but he was making it consistently and it seemed like it would be almost unstoppable against single coverage (although he'll rarely get that).

$20-22 million right off the bat = see ya.

I'll enjoy seeing Oden in person as much as I can this year, as I expect him to be in the NBA next year.

Agreed. Maybe being a college student myself puts this in perspective better. Right now Greg is living in an apartament on south campus. It's pretty nice for student housing, but he's livin with other people and has to put up with the hassles of on campus living.

So if you were Greg, would you want to continue living in your on campus apartament and keep going to class ~15~ hours a week, or go play a sport for you JOB and get payed HUGE sums of money to do so. Honestly, its not much of a decision. I think people have to remember that the whole pros/college thing is a lot more than what level of basketball he's playing at, its a whole life style change.

I'd likely head for the cash as soon as I could. But here's the thing, its not my decision, or anyone's decision but Oden's. Others have shunned the pros to stay in college before so its not unprecedented. He can get his degree anytime he wants, but this is his only chance in life to win a national championship in college and I think its something he'd like to do with his buddies before he moves on. Just my opinion.
