@DZ83CK I cannot think of many posters as negative as yourself. If Giddens comes in here and rebounds and plays solid post defense I think the majority of us will be very happy. I really do not care if he develops a back to the basket game or not. Just play solid defense and rebound the ball and be a good team player and I will be very happy.I hope people don't expect Giddens to develop a ton. I mean, all he is doing in those highlights is dunking the ball and blocking shots. Not exactly the type of highlight video I look at and say "a lot of raw talent that can be developed if only the coaches knew what they were doing." I've seen him show a little bit of range with his shot, moreso than Amir or Trey, but let's try not to put too high of expectations on this kid's potential just because he's got good physical traits. Not to be negative on Giddens, that is kind of the way a lot of bigs play in the NBA now, just in there to catch lobs and block shots. But my real gripe is I've seen a lot of complaints that the coaches don't develop guys, let's be real about big men generally, you just don't see a lot of centers that develop that back to the basket game anymore. Giddens is coming in to college with a limited skillset, he can do some things very well but to expect him to come into college and develop a high quality back to the basket skillset is unrealistic.
Exactly right. We have a ton of scorers and shooters on this team we need a beast to roam the middle and command respect. Haven't had anything since Lauderdale and not really dominant since Oden. Any of those comparisons would be awesome for Giddens to shoot for.@DZ83CK I cannot think of many posters as negative as yourself. That is right. Blame it all on the coaches with regard to a players development. It has nothing to do with the player's effort. So are you going to blame the coaches if he doesn't develop? Or criticize posters who claim guys don't develop under Matta that use Giddens as an example? I hope you will be in the latter category.

The problem is there so it must be the fault of the HC or one of the assistants. It has nothing to do with the fact that the player reached his potential when he was a senior in high school and that is what we got or maybe the player did not take to coaching that well and just cannot do what he was asked.I would agree with DZ83CK that there seems to be a trend of guys not getting significantly better under Matta, especially big men. I don't know who to blame, but the problem is there.
Now those are two excellent teaching methodsIn Amir Williams case, it seems unfathomable to me that in four years, they couldn't teach him to not bring the ball down below his waist to gather himself after an offensive rebound or inside pass. At worst, they could have taken him out of the game every time he did it. Or, they could have had him watch Bill Walton film for 2 hours every time.
So your working perspective is that they just didn't work on it regularly? That seems pretty unlikely. In Amir Williams case, it seems unfathomable to me that in four years, they couldn't teach him to not bring the ball down below his waist to gather himself after an offensive rebound or inside pass.
1) Who are you putting in?At worst, they could have taken him out of the game every time he did it.
