C Dallas Lauderdale (Maine Red Claws - NBA G-League)

Dallas just looks so lost right now, at both ends of the court. His defense tonight was very suspect - picked all the wrong times to hedge. :(

He's in a funk, and we'll need production from him if we're to make a long run in the tourney.

It seems like he hasn't been able to do anything right lately, which is a shame. I've always thought Dallas' impact was vastly underrated - an absolute game-changer on the defensive end, and that he bought into his role on the team with the best possible attitude. I really hope he gets back there soon.

I have to give props to Dallas because he is accepting his role as a senior without any complaints. He defines the word team.

With regard to his free-throw shooting, I just don't understand it after all these years and I know that he puts in the time practicing those free throws. Maybe more time than he should. I remember when we were down in Florida and I can't remember which game but they were talking about his free-throw shooting when he stepped to the line and he canned two free throws with a perfect stroke. Have not seen that stroke since:( and now he is probably thinking about it so much he will probably not get it back.

Can't rep you, but I agree. While he's always been basically a defensive role player, he hasn't, IMO, rebounded or played defense well at all against any competition with a pulse this year. I like the guy a lot, but he either needs to step up or DeShaun needs to take the vast majority of his playing time. Even if he does step up, he should never be on the floor in lieu of Deshaun near the end of a tight game.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I've wondered what's been up with Dallas lately too and a thought that's popped into my head has been this:
I wonder if Dallas, seeing the things that Sully has been able to do both in practices and games at such a young age, if he (Dallas) has subconciously been trying to mimic some of the things JS does, thinking "I can do that!" and as such taken himself out of his own game?

Like I said, it's a purely speculative thought on my part, and I'm not even saying DL is doing it on purpose, but as some have said Dallas has looked lost often in the last fw games to me and it hasn't mattered whether it's with JS on the court at the same time or without him.

Hopefully he snaps out of it soon because we'll be needing him badly to get thru the Big Ten season in the position we want.

Ohio State forward Dallas Lauderdale (52) handles the ball at the top of the key while being guarded by Iowa forward Melsahn Basabe (1) during the first half of an NCAA basketball game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Iowa University Hawkeyes held at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio, Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011.

Playing in a rotation alongside three of the top 35 scorers in school history and three players who have won a combined 10 Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards this season, it can be easy to overlook what Ohio State senior center Dallas Lauderdale can bring to the No. 1-ranked team in the nation.

But there was Lauderdale, fresh off playing just nine and seven minutes in the Buckeyes' past two games, respectively, jump-starting OSU's offense in the opening moments of the Buckeyes' 70-48 win against Iowa on Wednesday.

After committing a turnover on OSU's opening possession, the senior from Solon, Ohio, bounced back with a pair of dunks on the Buckeyes' following two possessions, giving OSU a 4-0 lead in the process.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said it would be easy to forget about Lauderdale when faced with the talent that the OSU roster possesses.

"They run their plays for everybody else, but he scores as a byproduct of so much other offensive talent and the fact that we were having trouble guarding those guys," McCaffery said. "That's how he hurts you. He hurts you with blocked shots. He hurts with his physical presence and rebounding. And then he hurts you when he hides around the basket and catches and dunks. It wasn't like they were going to him."

I don't want to see that in an alley at night:eek:

It would be better during the day? Love Sully's expression in the background. Reminds me of my favorite Buckeye BBall pic of what was almost the greatest dunk of all time. The look on Lighty's face is priceless, as well as the guys on the bench.

giving some props out to Dallas for being a champ and not crying about coming of the bench and helping the team when he gets a chance
still a force in the middle and a beast on defense. Last years, Big Ten defensive player of the year :oh:

Would love for Matta to have him and Sully on at the same time but, can't thats all they have for the biggies or Mattas dream 5 wing players :)

"We knew this was going to be a crazy environment," Lauderdale said, "and we embraced that. It gave us energy."

Lauderdale was particularly effective near the rim after Sullinger was double-teamed early in the second half, dunking three times in the first four minutes as the Buckeyes extended an eight-point lead at the break to double figures. They never led by fewer than 10 in the final 16 minutes.

Lauderdale admitted he may have thrown those dunks down just a little harder.

"The crowd was pretty ruthless," he said, "so they were quiet after a dunk, after a three, after anything. They were pretty quiet through the whole game because we felt we had control through the whole game."
