C Dallas Lauderdale (Maine Red Claws - NBA G-League)

Is anyone else concerned about Dallas' play in the Big Ten tournament? His normally trustworthy hands seem to have been replaced by those of Perry Carter, he seems to not be defending with his customary assertiveness(maybe getting out from Ed Hightower's shadow will help with this) and to me his body language doesn't seem right: He looks emotionally down and lacking in confidence to me. I really hope Thad makes an intentional effort to get him the rock vs. UCSB because I think a 12 point 8 board game and thirty minutes of PT against so-so competition might get him back on track. I get playing Madsen major minutes in the Big ten tourney given Dallas' struggles, but the Bucks are going to need the Dallas' defensive presence, as early as round 2 if they get Ga. Tech. and certainly in any subsequent game IMO.

I'm sure Coach Matta got his attention with the a$$ chewing he got on the bench yesterday...

I'm confident he will respond the right way. We need him. We need him to get a few bunnies and get a few blocks, even if he fouls out. Make 'em count, Dallas!

Tournament Diary: Ohio State's Dallas Lauderdale making sure Evan Turner gets some rest
By Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer
March 19, 2010

Ohio State junior starting center Dallas Lauderdale, a Solon grad, will provide The Plain Dealer with diary updates during the NCAA Tournament. These were Lauderdale's thoughts before Thursday evening's public shootaround. The Buckeyes open the tournament against UC-Santa Barbara tonight in Milwaukee:

"We went to a Brazilian steakhouse when we got here [Wednesday] night. They brought out like repetitive meat. So we ate good. I went to one my freshman year, but I didn't really eat much then because I didn't feel too well. So this was when I really got to indulge in all the food. I didn't really eat the steak, but I ate a lot of chicken, though. Out of the players, Zisis Sarikopoulos ate the most. Every single thing there he ate.

Then me and Evan [Turner] watched "The Blind Side" in our room and we just chilled out. Evan chose me to be his roommate, because last year I was Will [Buford's] roommate. Evan chose me this year because I force him to go to sleep. I'm one that likes to get my rest, so when I'm ready to go to sleep, lights off and TV off, and I have the remote.

Dallas's 8 blocks appears to be a Buckeye record for an NCAA Tournament game.

Ken Johnson had 11 twice in the regular season, and Brad Sellers had 9 in an NIT game in 1986. Johnson had 7 in the vacated Elite 8 game against St. John's in '99.

It was another talk on Thursday night that had an impact on Lauderdale.Ohio State junior starting center Dallas Lauderdale, a Solon grad, will provide The Plain Dealer with diary updates during the NCAA Tournament. These are Lauderdale's thoughts after Friday night's 68-51 first-round win over UC Santa Barbara, when he set career highs with 12 rebounds and eight blocks and also added four points on two dunks. The Buckeyes play Georgia Tech in the second round at 2:20 p.m. Sunday.

Coach [Thad] Matta came to my room about 11 on Thursday night, after we watched film. It was a surprise. The door was already open so he busted in. I had an idea what he wanted to talk about because this was the first time he ever came and just talked to me like that.

Buckeyes' Dallas Lauderdale can't wait for Sunday's NCAA showdown vs. Georgia Tech
By Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer
March 20, 2010

MILWAUKEE -- Ohio State junior starting center Dallas Lauderdale, a Solon grad, will provide The Plain Dealer with diary updates during the NCAA Tournament. These were Lauderdale's thoughts Saturday afternoon before the team practiced for today's secound-round game against Georgia Tech.

Lauderdale is coming off one of the best games of career, scoring four points and puttting up career highs with 12 rebounds and eight blocks against UC Santa Barbara late Friday night.

"As soon as I got to the bus, I had about 50 text messages from people congratulating me and saying good game. I tried to thank the people I thought would be awake, then I waited to call my grandmother and parents first thing this morning. I probably went to sleep about 3 or 3:30 Friday night.

"It's crazy, after a big win like that, I usually got to bed late and wake up early, just to see what's on my phone again. Lights off tonight will probably be around 8:30 or 9. Nah, I'm just playing. We'll probably have film at 9, but lights off will probably be at 10 after film. So Evan and I will not watch TV tonight.

"You don't want to forget about Friday's game, but you don't want to be satisfied with the way you played. You do want to remember the things you did and how you prepared and how you were focused. We'll watch Georgia Tech film tonight, but we definitely know they do pound it inside. I take it as a great challenge, and I'm going to have fun with it. I know Derrick Favors' name, I'm not going to lie.

"I played a lot of great big men, but one game that sticks out to me is when I guarded Kenny George when we played UNC-Asheville in the NIT my freshmen year. My coaches threw me in there and he was 7-7 and he didn't score on me. I loved playing against him. I was in awe of him because of his size. It was just fun shutting him down for the time I was in there.

"I look forward to not allowing a player to do what he wants to do. I take pride in that. Basketball is a great game where you can just crawl inside someone's mind, and I'm just looking forward to it."

Dallas Lauderdale's NCAA diary: Buckeyes were ready for physical Yellow Jackets
By Doug Lesmerises, The Plain Dealer
March 21, 2010

MILWAUKEE -- Ohio State junior center Dallas Lauderdale, a Solon grad, is providing The Plain Dealer with diary updates during the NCAA Tournament.

In Sunday's win over Georgia Tech, Lauderdale had four points, four rebounds, three blocks and just three fouls in 31 minutes while playing solid defense against Georgia Tech big men Derrick Favors and Gani Lawal, both of whom battled foul trouble.

Averaging a combined 26 points and 17 rebounds per game, the Tech duo finished with 22 points and eight rebounds.

"I was calm before the game. Fired up maybe a minute before the game started.

"I could tell that Derrick Favors was a freshman. It was a weird feeling I had, but I could tell he was young. He has a very bright future, but at this point in time I could tell he was a freshman. I say that because of the way he fought in the post and not running the floor. If I beat him to position, he would just give up. He would give up and not fight. So I just had a little bit more today.

"It's crazy to hear people call us veterans. I can still remember when people were saying we were a bunch of puppies, and we were so young, are we able to do this because we're so young. Now we're saying that about the other team. We know each other's games and we know what we're going to do.

"It's the Sweet 16 now, but we can't get too excited. You've got to stay focused. We're focused on Tennessee. They are a great team and very capable. They beat Kansas when Kansas was No. 1. We'll celebrate tonight, but tomorrow we'll focus on Tennessee.

"It was a very physical game, but we're ready for that. The way we practice and the teams we play in the Big Ten, we play in a physical league. So this was a physical game, but I didn't think it was more physical than a Big Ten game.

"I blocked that shot at the end because I didn't like the way they were hard fouling my teammates. I wasn't going to let them get anything, I wasn't going to let them get two more points if I had to foul or something. I didn't like the way they were treating my teammates. That was a dirty foul on one of my teammates. I was definitely mad
