apparently you havent watched basketball in the last 10 years...
I have watched a lot of basketball over the years and it all depends upon which team you are watching. On quite a few teams guys dedicate themselves to playing defense every time down the court. Especially the good teams.

Mullens.........when motivated can be absolutely dominate........there is no question about that.......but I believe he will be asked to play defense at a level he has not approached on the high school level...........it will be a transition for him..........JMO

I guess I am not that worried about Mullens and his ability to play defense at the college level. My biggest concern is how he will handle the officiating at the college level or, should I say, will the officials be too hard on him because of his size. It will be also interesting to see if we play more man-to-man defense this year which would obviously help him in not picking up some fouls.

Big 10 Conference: Top NBA Prospects

Top 5 Prospects:

While the Big 10 lacks a great deal of depth when it comes to NBA prospects, they caught one big fish: BJ Mullens, and have a number of other first round candidates at the wing positions. Here are the Big 10's best hopefuls for the NBA:

BJ Mullens
  1. BJ Mullens (Ohio State) - Mullens comes into Ohio State as the third straight top rated prep center to commit to the Buckeyes, and will attempt to be the 2nd in three years to go #1 overall as he figures to compete with Oklahoma's Blake Griffin for the top spot in the 2009 NBA Draft. He's got size and polish around the basket; and possesses NBA strength and stand out athleticism for a 7-footer; as well as a solid basketball IQ and fundamentals. There are few weaknesses to his game right now, which is unbelievable considering how young he is. The only weakness is in his attitude; some analysts /scouts say that he doesn't have a killer instinct, but that can be attributed to age and playing against inferior competition in high school. Thad Matta will make sure that he plays hungry and focused every night, so his attitude shouldn't be a concern come draft time.

Mullens is 'newcomer of the year'

I just got my Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook -- the bible for those who want to know everything about every Division I team -- in the mail this afternoon. It named Ohio State freshman B.J. Mullens its newcomer of the year and North Carolina senior Tyler Hansbrough its player of the year in college basketball.
Coach Thad Matta said at media day Monday that Mullens, listed at 7 feet and 275 on the OSU roster, is bigger than Greg Oden was when Oden reported as a freshman. Matta calls Mullens 7-1 (probably in shoes) and said he weighed 264 the last time he was on the scales.

didnt Thad say himself that Mullens is bigger than Oden was as well?
Yup, Matta said he was the biggest seven footer he has had at Ohio State. That would make him bigger than Greg. I just hope he can grab the rebounds like Oden did when he had both hands in operation:)
