BuckeyePlanet Spring Drive 2010

Even though I have contributed to the Spring Drives more than once every time I login to Buckeye Planet I think nothing of it. However when I see the numerous people that have posted on this site that don't have one banner it sort of irritates me... okay it really bothers me because I know a guy who has almost put his life on the line to keep this site free.

I can't believe that there are people posting on this site that cannot afford $10 a month or even $5. That is pretty sad. You get the same information, if not more, on this site that you would get on Scout or Rivals and even BN and you don't have to pay one dime for the information that is provided by the admins, moderators, and just people who want to make this site the best Buckeye site. I'm not even going to talk about the posters who enjoy debating their philosophical differences that are non-sport.

I don't know maybe some of you don't understand how much time and effort it takes to keep this site running and I won't even bother to mention Clarity's medical condition because I'm not sure many of you really understand what he goes through every day physically just so people can post their thoughts and obtain information from Buckeye Planet.

The number of people who are members of Buckeye Planet are overwhelmed every day via the "Guests" on this site. I think it would be nice of the "Guests" to start contributing to help keep this site up and running. We are way behind with regard to contributions compared to past years and a server can only last so long. It would be interesting to see where everyone would get their Ohio State sports fix if the server would crash and not be able to be brought back to life.

A lot of people have contributed quite a bit of money and time to keep Buckeye Planet up and running and it would be nice to see more people with banners next to their names. It doesn't take much time to set up a PayPal account and make a small donation to help a guy who has given so much to you and the Buckeye Community.

As a disclaimer, I would like to note that there are several folks who request that banners are not placed next to their names and their donations remain anonymous.

However, your point stands...if the community as a whole contributes a few bucks, we hit the goal easily.

While we're talking about ribbons... What about retro ribbons from 2003-2007? Not that I really care but is there some kind of record of donations made during that time frame?

Sorry my donation was late this time, I've been in the gaming thread since NCAA came out.

We've only had to resort to requesting donations during the past few years. There weren't donation drives prior to 2008.

I think that Basebuck might be referring to the last drive for a new server, or other causes, because there most certainly were donation drives before 2008. Hell, the T-shirts and the poker tournament from several years ago were both part of bigger drives for donations.

I could have sworn there were medals (bronze, silver and gold I believe) or something along those lines given to those of us who donated to the site prior to 2008. I could be wrong and my mind is getting more feeble. I don't remember if the donations prior to 2008 were part of any drive like we have now but I know there were a lot of us who donated to the cause.

There were medals, but Mili is old, and his long-term memory only has about 3 years worth of storage before it starts overwriting itself. :tongue2:

That's right. I forgot about the medals. Just wanted to point out that many donated prior to the ribbon era.

I forgot about the T-shirts :)

We still have all the old data. The medals were handled through a modification we no longer use (it's no longer supported or in development). On Longwood's to-do list is plugging in all the old data into our easier implementation and enabling new ribbons for older donation years. So it's out there and coming.

2010/now or 2006 (whatever year it was we first ran a drive to fund the 'new' server), every cent is appreciated because it represents someone going above and beyond the normal scope of the free internet and sending their own hard-earned money to help support something that they (hopefully) appreciate. I've always wished that rather than have lots of people give large and/or repeatedly that a greater number newer user generations give small -- but that's really not how these things work. The drive is what it is, as the (fiscally scary) Fall approaches it will make a big difference until ad revs pick back up (and start paying back out). No one should feel undue pressure to give (maintaining a productive but non-pushy tone with these has always been the hardest thing for both myself and those kind enough to administer these efforts), at the same time, I want everyone who has given (of money, time, energy, or any other means) to know that we deeply appreciate it -- in the sort of 'deep appreciation' way that transcends the normal platitudes that often accompany such things.

maybe when the economy improves, donations will improve, too.

Speaking of the economy, there may be a lot of folks who do not have a credit card. or they've sworn them off, and so can't donate through PayPal.

You've probably done this before, but how about posting info on who to make checks payable to, and where to mail them.

As always, thanks for keeping this thing going. You know we appreciate it.

Go Bucks!

I have CCI writing up a very strongly worded post for me pointing out how I earned all those medals/ribbons. Might want to move reinstating them up your priority list, pal.

Heya friends, neighbors, and JCOSU86 (maybe),

Thanks so much to everyone who has participated in the 2010 Spring Drive! The current total is $5,063.02 with 116 participants who completely and totally rock.

We haven't hit our goals yet, but your generous donations have provided vital support for the site and Clarity's expenses for several months. After some discussion, deliberation, and stalling (that would be me), we're going to go ahead and take a bit of a hiatus from fundraising. Definitely don't want to be in a state of perpetual donor drives, and so it's time to let everyone relax a bit and enjoy the buildup to YOU KNOW WHAT AND IT'S APPROACHING FAST. :oh:

We'll relaunch with some fun new stuff in a few weeks, though if you feel inclined to donate in the meantime, all the same benefits apply, and THANK YOU! Until then, hats off to the folks who keep the interweb machinery spinning for BuckeyePlanet!
