My team will probably suck ass again this year, but here is an analysis:
QB- Kolb, McNabb
Sort of a semi-matchup situation here with Phily QBs past and present.
I waited to get my QB until the later rounds and just missed out on Cutler, but I think Kolb will have his share of good games. Hard to say what McNabb will do when he has much less to work with this year, but he still has some left in the tank and feels he has something to prove. I think he'll probably have 5-7 good matchups this season, which is probably all I will need him for. Decent backup.
Grade: B-
RB- Best, Addai, Barber, Forsett, Portis
The way the draft was set up and the guys that were kept, I was not in a position to get an "elite" back, even with the 3rd pick, and I had other guys I felt I needed to pick at the WR and TE positions to get elite players at those spots as well. That left me with this mish-mash that is OK for matchups with 5 guys but this group sucks armadillo nipple on paper. Best could be a good pick for me in the mid-rounds if he pans out, or he could be Kevin Smith V2.0. Addai doesn't have much left but plays on a really good team and will get some favorable matchups on carpet late in the year. I think Barber is underrated (along with ABradshaw, who I also almost picked at his spot) because I think Dallas will run more than people think and he'll get the power red zone carries. Hard to know what to make of Forsett, but he's the best back they have on a team that sucks buttcheeks, so he could give me 3-4 good weeks and could be a keeper if he is a feature back next year. Portis is waaaay on the downside, but still starts in Washington and still seems to have 3-5 really good games a season. Because I won't need a RB at the flex spot many weeks (see WR below) I only need 2 guys most weeks, and I think I can find 2 serviceable options. RB was never going to be my strength, so I rolled the dice with this league like I did the one I drafted 12/12 last year and won by going with WR, TE, and D.
Grade: F+
WR- Andre Johnson, Fitzgerald, DeSean Jackson
I went elite on the wideouts, taking Andre Johnson first and grabbing Fitz instead of a tier 2 or tier 3 back at the end of round 2 (DJ was a keeper, 6th round). It worked well, because the back I would have taken was Best, and he was still on the board early in round 3 for me. These guys will all 3 play together most weeks with DJ at the flex. As long as none get hurt for a significant amount of time, I should be fine here at just 3-deep. RBs will fill in the flex when WRs have to sit.
Grade: A
TE- Vernon Davis, Owen Daniels
Had to take Davis early when Gates and Clark went off the board...he was the last elite TE left and I was lucky to grab him when I did. If he approaches the 900 yards and 8 TDs he had last year, I'm good to go here. OD was a 14th rounder that I was surprised was still on the board. He is a good one-week fill-in and some security if Davis sprains a knee or punches a kitten and misses a week or two.
Grade: A
DEF- Phily, NY Jets
I was pretty happy with these picks. The Jets I kept at 12, and despite Ds going as early as round 8, Phily was still there very late for me to grab for matchup potential. This gives me 2 of what I consider the top 5 fantasy defenses, and if DJ runs back some kicks, it will be a bonus. I don't like week 1, but I like the rest with both.
Grade: A
Kicker: Gould
No one gives a fiddler's shitlog about kickers, if Gould blows goats I'll just cut him and pick up another one.
Grade: Who cares
All in all, I think I will be able to match last season's win total (I think it was 4 or 5) and maybe give a few of the better teams a run for their money if I have a back or two (like Best) step up.
