I beleive the quote is "A pair and a spare"

"Two and a Spare" is like in Back to the Future when Biff says, "You better make like a tree and get outta here"

Duh.

Don't take it personally.. I jsut always wanted to use the Banned emoticon...

You hitting the bar tonight or what?

I think Brandon Joe will be a big factor this year for the Bucks. We were certainly lacking a fullback in last years attack and really have since Martin in my opionion.

We also had an extremely talented running back recruit from Toledo (help me with the name please) who tragically passed away. No telling how far this young man would have gone in a Buckeye uni....

How come Lydell can't produce behind lines that Wells and Clarett could ?

3. He has been the the RB in an offense where the passing game was a third thought and his OLine couldn't move very fast.

I'm tired of hearing that bullshit excuse for him. At least he learned not to say such in the papers after his freshman year. What will help out Lydell most is if we can schedule some more IU schools, I'm sure they've got several branches.

Whoever said Tressel needs to recruit the bigger tailbacks is spot on.

Dru Humphry

I'm tired of hearing that bullshit excuse for him.

Ross has been playing hurt since his Frosh season. Hall has been playing hurt the past two years as well. I have seen Fraser take hits from several folks because of his subpar play at times last year - even though he also played through injuries. Dustin Fox got lambasted for getting beat in the Illinois game even though he was playing with an injury.

None of us have any idea what kind of physical issues these players are dealing with. The coaches know and play them hurt because even with an injury they are our best option. (Mo Hall should have had surgery last year but played because we had no depth ar RB.)

I for one have never heard Lydell Ross give an excuse for anything (if he made some comment as a Frosh I missed it). I did watch him take the demotion behind MC with as much class as you could ever ask of anyone.

Give 'em a break.

Lydell isn't different than anyone else playing the game.

He's a B-U-S-T.
Thats pretty harsh. I seem to recall that it was Lydell Ross as a true freshman that lite a fire under a senior by the name of Jonathan Wells who upto his senior season had done basically nothing at OSU. Ross, IMO, will have a sensational senior year.

Wells had shown glimpses prior to 2001

And against good teams like Michigan and Miami. Ross has yet to show up in a big game. Ross' biggest contribution to date may have indeed been lighting a fire underneath Wells. Maybe he can do the same for Pittman or Haw this year ?

All players play thru injuries

We gotta agree to disagree on this one. Players play through pain. But all injuries are different. Some can keep a kid from playing at all, others allow them to play, but not at the same level. Usually a kid who is hampered by an injury will fall to 2nd or 3rd string. OSU didn't have that option last season.

I agree with Rob. What is the explanation for why Ross did not follow the trajectory he set for himself as a Frosh? He sure as heck came to camp in shape last season, so it ain't that he isn't working hard.

I was amazed at the size of Ross when camp rolled around last year. He really put the effort in during the off season and must have lived in the weight room. However, I think he may have gotten TOO big for his body and his playing style. Just because he got as big and thick as he did, he did not know how to use that suze to his advantage. I think that also had something to do with he nagging injuries last year. His body was just not used to having the extra weight and I just believe that did not help him. I hope he drops a little weight (maybe play at 215ish instead of 230+) and grets a little more speed back (cutting ability). I think that would allow him to have a great senior year. Play within his game and try NOT to play like MoC. Open his eyes and follow a blocker instead of thinking he is big enough to make his own hole.

Chris Perry was seen as a bust by many, even those in the piss and blue, before last season started. I don't see why a healthy Ross, who came on pretty well late last season, can't put together a solid senior campaign for himself.

We're only a few years removed from him being "Flydell the savior", he may not have been all that we as fans built him up to be then, but I'm not sure he's as some of us are tearing him down to now.

I honestly don't see why he can't average 120 yards and a TD and a half per game this season. Doesn't mean I think he's going to, but I can't think of a reason why he couldn't if healthy. Someone could turn that around and say then it's also possible he averages 40 yards and half a TD per game on the season, gets spelled by Hall, Haw, Pittman, Joe, etc. Sure, that's possible too. All we can talk about is ability and potential right now, and considering this is the first Spring Ross has made it through entirely healthy, I don't know why we'd expect him to entirely disappoint.

Uh, nimrod, just how did Wells "show glimpses" against Miami when he had already graduated prior to the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, and in the 1999 game the leader rusher was Wiley with 72 yards? Put the stem down...

I wouldn't call Flydel a bust quite yet... he could do good things this year... after the season the jury will make up its mind on his production/what was expected out of him....

AKAK,

I thought a good portion of the "crew" was going to a clippers game tonight.... or is that next week...?

If folks are going to the bar, I should be able to make it (a little late, but when do I ever get out of here @ 5:00??)...

Wells played against Miami in KOC in 1999

And he was running strong until he got hurt. Remember the punch to his nuts as he lay prone on the ground after hurting himself ? Wiley may have been the leading rusher in that game but he had one long run early in the game (remember him getting run down, seemingly running out of gas after having an open field and nothing between him and 6 ?) and wasn't very productive afterwards. At least you didn't contest his first performance in Ann Arbor, though I'd have liked to see him not head into the field and get tackled short of the end zone. I'll never understand why he did that !

i have high hopes for lydell this season but i would say he has greater than a 50% chance of being labeled a bust after his OSU career is over.

he simply lacks patience to wait for the hole develop and the vision to see the hole.

i have higher hopes for haw and pittman (in that order, pittman needs to learn to block this summer and fall camp big time, haw has played fullback previously so i presume he is at least serviceable in picking up a blitz.)
