I've never seen such a fantastic playmaker reduced to a decoy and blocker for an entire game.
I've never been a "Play Ginn at Cornerback" guy, because I feel that he should score more points on offense than he could ever prevent on defense. On Saturday night that was not the case, however. There are precious few people on the globe that could shut Ginn out in an entire game...but as it turns out, Tressel is one of them.
This is the time for Tressel to make a decision. Our secondary was exploited and our receivers were under/incorrectly used. Ted Ginn can NOT be used as a blocker or decoy for an entire game. He also should not be used exclusively on reverses and screens, because EVERYONE is ready for it. Get it to Teddy on pass patterns, in stride, just like we did last year. Either let him be a receiver or let him be a corner.
In the Texas game, most of the plays we ran were designed runs (often by our freakin QB). Who would you rather have blocking, Ted Ginn or Roy Hall? Why not let someone else waste their energy blocking and let Ginn play defense, special teams and bring him in for his special "decoy" or "gimmick" plays?
Again, I don't think Ginn has as much potential value at corner as he does at receiver. That is why Tressel needs to get him the ball in ways that utilize his talents, or he should just put him on defense and let our other talented wide receivers block for designed QB runs every play.
With special teams play remaining equal
Potential Ginn offensive production > Potential Ginn defensive prevention
Actual Ginn offensive use < Potential Ginn defensive prevention + a few trick or gimmick plays on offense
I'd rather see him on offense...but only if he's used. Tell me I'm wrong.
