Buckeye Receivers - 2005

hornyhoosier said:
Why does Ginn get so much love as a reciever? Teddy Ginn Jr. is an awesome special teams player, but Holmes is far and away the better reciever. Why is Ginn the media darling and Holmes doesn't get near the press? Somebody help me out.

P.S. I wish the Horns had a reciever like Holmes, the dude's a stud.

are you a michigan fan????

asking why people should think he is good...using words as media "Darling", i dont understand alot of you guys...

i have made alot of post on numerous buckeye boards, telling everyone to calm down...but i havnt used this phrase yet but i will use it now....

ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!

CHILL OUT, and move on to SanDiego State

It's fun to get caught up in the Ginn hype. After all, he truly is an exciting talent. That said, all Buckeye fans need to truly appreciate what kind of special WR Holmes has been for us.

BTW, I feel the same way about Danielson. He knows his stuff and has great insight.

I believe he is just a Texas fan pointing out that he thought Holmes was the better of our top two when the media makes it out to be that Ginn is.

no one on our offense will be a heisman candidate, until tressel opens up the playbook and plays to the teams strength, unlike what he did saturday.
you have to stop with that mentality... we were *this close* to winning, and having Coach Tressel be the guy at the front of the Conga Line...

please give that crap a rest...

I've never seen such a fantastic playmaker reduced to a decoy and blocker for an entire game.

I've never been a "Play Ginn at Cornerback" guy, because I feel that he should score more points on offense than he could ever prevent on defense. On Saturday night that was not the case, however. There are precious few people on the globe that could shut Ginn out in an entire game...but as it turns out, Tressel is one of them.

This is the time for Tressel to make a decision. Our secondary was exploited and our receivers were under/incorrectly used. Ted Ginn can NOT be used as a blocker or decoy for an entire game. He also should not be used exclusively on reverses and screens, because EVERYONE is ready for it. Get it to Teddy on pass patterns, in stride, just like we did last year. Either let him be a receiver or let him be a corner.

In the Texas game, most of the plays we ran were designed runs (often by our freakin QB). Who would you rather have blocking, Ted Ginn or Roy Hall? Why not let someone else waste their energy blocking and let Ginn play defense, special teams and bring him in for his special "decoy" or "gimmick" plays?

Again, I don't think Ginn has as much potential value at corner as he does at receiver. That is why Tressel needs to get him the ball in ways that utilize his talents, or he should just put him on defense and let our other talented wide receivers block for designed QB runs every play.

With special teams play remaining equal

Potential Ginn offensive production > Potential Ginn defensive prevention
Actual Ginn offensive use < Potential Ginn defensive prevention + a few trick or gimmick plays on offense

I'd rather see him on offense...but only if he's used. Tell me I'm wrong.

you aren't wrong. He has more potential to help the team on offense....but If he is going to be blocking for 75% of the game, put Roy Hall in, it will help the offense more. That is definitely a valid point.

However, he should play offense and we need to feature him like all the talk was this offseason.

We have played two games and Ginn has......what..... 12 touches on offense. That isn't gonna get it done. I still can't beleive that we didn't try to get him the ball more. I was watching the second half of the game in complete and total awe. My wife who knows nothing about football said "why don't they pass the ball to that guy that was on the cover of sports illustrated." Maybe we should sign her up as offensive co-ordinator.

I know he had a couple drops, but you still need to get him the ball.

Holmes runs the sharpest routes I've seen since Terry Glenn. His route running will make him a lot of money playing on Sundays.

Ginn is a special talent, but he hasn't devloped the route running skills that Gonz and Holmes have.

Your completely right, but remember that it is just as important that we get it to him the right way. I believe the drops were a telling sign that he's not being allowed to use his instincts. When he catches the ball in mid stride, (see MSU last year), he just runs and will make a person or two miss on his way to the endzone. When the ENTIRE defense is in front of him as he gets the ball, he can't even use his speed until he's juked and back stepped about 2 or 3 guys. He is out of his element and at a disadvantage when the entire defense knows it's going to him within 2 seconds of the ball being hiked. That's enough to get into anyones head and have them dropping balls.

Tressel isn't a guy that admits he is wrong easily...usually to the point of being flat stubborn. I know it get's cliche, but unless he forces himself to adjust the offense to our talent...Ginn is better used in areas where he gets the freedom of using his instincts rather than being hindered by an offensive dinosaur.

Nice post Oiler I agree with what you said. The thing I don't get is why we arent seeing routes ran. I mean why are our guys not running Post, outs, crosses, and drags.

The only routes I see are 5 yd. slants, 5 yd. comebacks, and the fade once in a blue moon.

Why not a stop and go or something to that affect.

I thing we need to get the ball to our recievers in stride. Let them make double moves to get wide open. I mean Holmes gets open with just one move, why not a stop and go.
