Buckeye Offensive Coordinator Discussion (merged)

I am guilty as charged.

I was pounding my head against the wall earlier in the season and I was calling for Bollman to resign. :2004:

I will not question the play calling or the offensive scheme again. It seems that things have come together nicely.

It's too bad they couldn't have come together for the NW or Iowa game, but hey, at least they came together.

if the speculation is true that bollman has been relegated to the booth to serve as OC and Peterson is assuming line duties, then I think osu may have found a formula that works.

Woody 40-50 points

I Don't have the info in front of me, but i would bet over his tenure at tOSU Woody didn't average more than 27 points a season, if that much. They won the game and looked good doing it. Take a pill and lie down.

I guess youd be shocked to learn that the '74 team outscored the '98 team then huh? Or that the 68-70 teams averaged 34.3 ppg. The 72-75 teams avg 32.9 ppg.

That 74 team was the 3rd highest point total in OSU history behind only 1995 and 1996. They averaged 36.4 ppg.

Maybe someone should do some research, then take a pill and shut the fuck up about Woody if you are ignorant of the facts.

Excuse me.

I believe I said average, you point out a few years in a 25 year period. I'll stick with my post and let you rant. Maybe two pills would settle you down. What is wrong with winning by 26. T must have called some good plays. By the way when you post try to do so with less malice. Thanks

When you post try to do so with less of a smart ass attitude and I will gladly reign in the malice. Keep up the "take a pill and lie down" shit and I'll be just as nasty as I please fuckstick.

Well....I believe JT has changed his style throughout the season. He HAS changed the playbook and if the rumors are true and I believe they are, Coach P has done a fine job with the line.

It was one hell of a mid-season adjustment. Another reason that JT is a great coach. And FYI...I ridiculed his playcalling during the first 6 games.

Back on point.

Can anyone tell me the points scored while Woody was the coach? I may be a bit low, but suggest it was closer too 27 than to 40 per game. As to being a fuckstick, that may be true, but rather that, than a poor example of a poster/fan that you represent. One national championship, 3-1 Mich./bowls, and YOU don't like his play selection. Your a sick puppy.

Seriously. I think with Smith as QB, the offense was evolving faster than the coaching staff could put plays together to take advantage. When Arrington interviewed JT at the end of the game he had the weirdest smirk on his face when she asked him about Ginn taking snaps as QB. I dunno if he was impressed, surprised, or knew it would work all along.

What kind of simpelton are you? No one in their right mind is actually slamming JT's playcalling. The concept is called sarcasm and its obviously lost on someone of your towering intellect. Also a bit of self derision for all of us who were on the ledge during the first half of the season.

And as to the whole 27 vs 40 thing, Milli made the point that Woody's teams often scored 40-50 points on people and never passed the ball. Thats when you chimed in with your guess as to his career ppg number and the snide little "take a pill and calm down" comment.

I already showed you that in his prime Woody's teams did indeed score a great deal without throwing much. When you average 36 ppg for a season you damn sure hit the 40+ mark a few times.

For the breadth of his entire career no one in the world is going to average 40 ppg and thats not the point Mili was making.

FWIW, since I'm sure your incapable:

Woody Hayes 276 games at OSU scored 6651 points. I'll save you the pain and do the math for you, its 24 ppg. Again, Mili wasn't saying the man averaged 40-50 ppg for his career but that his teams did score that high quite often without passing the ball much/at all. Your dumb ass just misunderstood the whole point, much like you did the entire point of the thread.

Has anyone noticed a pattern with Tressell's play calling over the course of a season?

First off, he hides/saves a lot for the last two games. The offense goes from Ultra-Conservative to very creative and open in the scUM and Bowl games. Look at the '02 Outback Bowl against South Carolina, the Fiesta Bowl against Miami, the '03 scUM game, the '04 Fiesta Bowl vs. K-State, and the last two games this year. All of those games included diverse offensive schemes and plays that we hadn't seen over the course of the year and the opposing team couldn't prepare for. A great example of this is the option play to Mo Hall for the winning TD in the '02 scUM game, and the wheel route pass to MoC to set up that score. OSU hadn't run a play close to those all year.

Secondly, he picks his spots to be aggressive. Early in the game, he'll take a shot downfield to get a go-ahead score, and let his running game/D take over from there. A great example of this is the '02 Whisky game when he went empty on the first drive to set up the long TD to MJ, and then basically played ball control/field position the rest of the game for the win.

And thirdly, he adds plays to the scheme as the season goes along. A great example of this is the TE crossing pattern that Purdue beat us with earlier this year. Tress liked the play, put it in the playbook, and used it with Ryan Hamby against scUM.

Just some food for thought next season when some of you are ready to barbecue JT and Bollman.

also....the 02 and 03 offenses were primarly manned by big and slow players...

this offense is a 180 degree flip from anything tressel has had while at ohio state....

someone else stated this earlier....and i dont think it can be stressed enough....moving bollman upstairs was the single greatest difference maker...

To jaxbuck

i was replying to Your post on the thread only. Woody didn't Average in the high twenties as I suggested. Your post suggested that he often scored in the 40-50. That was what I took issue with. If he averaged 24 he didn't do it often and that was my point. But how can you be so upset when T has done so well in his first four year. I'm sure he would like to change a number of his calls if he could. Having said that, how many programs have been better the last four years? If he would be let go who would replace him? Who would want to come here? The "graveyard of coaches". What does it take to make fans happy?
